About this file
This is a specifications document for panelboards to be purchased by the State of Maine for the 19 Union Street Data Center project, prepared by Integrated Design Group, Inc. The specification covers the purchase and installation of distribution panelboards (UDIA and UDIB) with associated disconnecting and overcurrent protective devices. The document outlines detailed requirements for panelboard design, including surface-mounted cabinets rated for indoor dry and clean locations per NEMA 250 Type 1 standards, with specifications for enclosures, buses, hinged front covers with vault-type latches, and integrated short-circuit ratings of 65,000 amperes RMS symmetrical for 480-volt panelboards. The specification mandates that panelboards meet NEMA PB 1 standards and withstand seismic forces as defined in Section 26 00 09p, with environmental limitations requiring installation only after spaces are enclosed, weathertight, and temporary HVAC systems maintain occupancy-level temperature and humidity conditions.
The specification identifies four approved manufacturers for distribution panelboards: Eaton Electrical Inc. (Cutler-Hammer), General Electric Company, Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc., and Square D (Schneider Electric). Required submittals include shop drawings indicating outline dimensions, voltage ratings, main bus ampacity, circuit breaker arrangements, and specifications for molded-case circuit breakers complying with UL 489. Additional requirements include furnishing six panelboard keys per unit, two spare circuit breaker lock-on devices per panelboard, and one spare circuit breaker for each size and type where space permits. The specification mandates field quality control through manufacturer's factory-authorized service representatives for inspection and testing, with integrated systems testing (commissioning Level 5) required following acceptance testing completion. Temporary heating must be applied per manufacturer instructions, and all lock-on devices must be verified as installed prior to project completion.
