About this file

This document is a volume of technical specifications for the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History Baird Auditorium renovation project, specifically Volume 2 covering Divisions 10-28. The comprehensive renovation encompasses a complete restoration of the historic auditorium, including infrastructure upgrades, mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems modernization, accessibility improvements, and preservation of historic architectural elements like the Guastavino tile ceiling.

Key project details include a 730-calendar day construction period with a budget exceeding $10 million, targeting LEED Gold certification. Subcontracting goals are set at 40% for small businesses, with at least 7% allocated to Service-Disabled Veteran-owned small businesses. The project involves upgrading theater systems, replacing floor slabs, installing fire sprinklers, updating audio/visual and lighting equipment, refurbishing seating, improving acoustics, installing display cases, and rehabilitating adjacent spaces. The Davis-Bacon Wage Determination DC20250002 applies, and the proposal due date is May 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST, with questions due by April 25, 2025.
