About this file
This is an informational brochure describing NHTSA's Traffic Records GO Team program, a training and technical assistance initiative available at no cost to state, tribe, and territory traffic records professionals.
The GO Team program deploys small teams of subject matter experts from across the country to provide tailored technical assistance and training to jurisdictions seeking to improve their traffic records data collection, management, and analysis capabilities. Jurisdictions may request GO Teams to address Traffic Records Assessment recommendations, target needs identified by their Traffic Records Coordinating Committee (TRCC), provide technical training, or strengthen traffic records data collection, integration, governance, or analytical use. Sample project types include data integration, injury surveillance, driver/vehicle data quality improvement, crash data training, citation and adjudication harmonization, roadway data governance planning, TRCC strategic planning support, comprehensive data inventory development, state traffic records coordinator training, and crash data improvement programs. GO Teams must address clearly delineated, smaller-scale, short- to medium-term needs. Jurisdictions interested in requesting a GO Team must submit an application to their NHTSA Regional Program Manager that includes a detailed description of the technical problem, specific technical assistance requested, current and past problem-solving efforts, alignment with the TRCC's strategic plan, anticipated improvements to traffic records systems, and contact information for jurisdiction officials who will collaborate with the GO Team. Additional information and application assistance is available through contacting the regional program manager or visiting www.nhtsa.gov/data/traffic-records.

NHTSA
GO TEAMS
TRAINING AND
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
NHTSA’s Traffic Records GO Team program is designed to provide resources and assistance to state, tribe, and territory traffic records professionals as they work to better their traffic records data collection, management, and analysis capabilities.
GO Teams help jurisdictions improve their traffic records systems by deploying small teams of your peers from around the country as subject matter experts to deliver tailored technical assistance and training based on needs.
Reasons to request a GO Team:
• To address a Traffic Records Assessment recommendation or consideration;
• To target a need identified by the jurisdiction’s TRCC;
• To provide technical training; or
• To help strengthen the jurisdiction’s traffic records data collection, integration, governance, or use in planning or analysis.
NHTSA’s Traffic Records Team is tasked with helping jurisdictions improve their traffic safety data collection, management, and analysis capabilities through evaluation, training, and technical assistance.
To learn more, visit www.nhtsa. gov/data/traffic-records.
To submit a GO Team application, contact your NHTSA Regional Program Manager.

SAMPLE GO TEAM
PROJECTS
Data Integration
Evaluate available databases and facilitate discussions between data custodians to allow sharing and integration between agencies, and suggest how integrated data can help identify problems and suggest and evaluate countermeasures.
Injury Surveillance
Facilitate discussions with data managers and help explain the importance of linking injury data with crash data, how data will be used, and address confidentiality concerns in order to move toward a data-sharing agreement or memorandum of understanding.
Driver/Vehicle
Help a jurisdiction improve data quality through the implementation of edit checks and other QC components (e.g., an error/ edit output for transfer failures and a tracking process).
Crash
Train jurisdiction crash data collectors, processors, administrators, and users on the importance of accurate and complete crash data and how this helps to improve safety decisions.
Citation and Adjudication
Help a jurisdiction develop a “law table” to interpret the local charges and help harmonize local and state statute citations so that more accurate data can be collected.
GO Teams must have a clearly delineated scope appropriate to the GO Team program—a smaller scale, short- to medium-term need.
Roadway
Help a jurisdiction develop an effective data governance plan for roadway data by identifying and maintaining critical data elements to create a data inventory within DOT and with other traffic records datasets.
 Traffic Records Coordinating Committee Management & Strategic Planning
Assist a jurisdiction TRCC with strategic planning and implementing performance measures to meet strategic planning goals.
Comprehensive Data Inventory
Help a jurisdiction establish a process for building a comprehensive data inventory of the state’s traffic records systems.
 State Traffic Records Coordinator Training
Support and train the jurisdiction Traffic Records Coordinator on traffic records program requirements, TRCC management and effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement.
Crash Data Improvement Program
Evaluate the quality of crash data and provide the jurisdiction with specific recommendations to improve the quality, management, and use of that data to support safety decisions and facilitate electronic data transfer. The CDIP often includes mapping jurisdiction data to the Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria.
