About this file

This document is a technical maintenance and safety manual for sliding and swing gate systems.

The manual establishes comprehensive safety recommendations requiring that qualified and trained staff operate gates only when danger zones are visible and clear of personnel, animals, goods, or vehicles. Key operational requirements include reading the operating manual before use, preventing unwanted control access, maintaining awareness of crushing and shearing hazards at closing edges, ensuring gate panels are unlocked before opening, and prohibiting gate passage until the gate reaches its final position. The gate operates on 230V to 400V AC electric motors, and unauthorized interventions such as removal of protective covers are prohibited. Commissioning must be performed by expert installation services and includes mechanical installation verification, fittings and electrical connection checks, smooth operation validation in uncoupled state, function and control device testing, security equipment inspection, signage installation, and on-site expert instruction with reference to annual maintenance and training requirements.

The document specifies maintenance schedules based on operational intensity: gates operating at 30 opening cycles per day require annual maintenance, those at up to 120 cycles per day require biannual maintenance, and those exceeding 120 cycles per day require three annual maintenance sessions. Maintenance tasks include unlocking the door, controlling pulley blocks with adjustments, checking running clearance, inspecting ball bearings, tightening turnbuckles, adjusting intake and guiding elements with greasing, checking attachment plug durability, verifying profile screwing, checking cable tension in telescoping gates, performing engine maintenance per manufacturer specifications, greasing locks on manually operated gates, and verifying smoothness in unlocked state. Surface cleaning must avoid high-pressure cleaners or abrasives. The manufacturer disclaims liability for accidents or property damage resulting from improper use, failure to follow instructions, unauthorized modifications, or neglected maintenance, with non-compliance automatically invalidating the declaration of conformity and CE mark.

MAINTENANCE OF GATES (SLIDING AND SWING GATES)

Safety recommendations

1. The operating manual must be read carefully before opening, in order to ensure correct use.

2. The operation must be performed by qualified and trained staff who are familiar with the system.

3. Controls, e.g. Transmitters need to be stored in a manner that unwanted operation is prevented.

4. Be aware of the crushing and shearing hazard on the main and secondary closing edges.

5. The door must only be operated when the danger zone can be overlooked by the operator and no people or animals and goods or vehicles are visible within the zone.

6. Before opening the gate you must ensure that the gate panel is not locked.

7. The gate is only allowed to be passed when the gate has reached its final position.

8. The gate is operated by electric motor, whose voltage ranges between 230 V and 400 V AC

is. It is necessary to be aware that the drive is no forbidden and unauthorized intervention is made, such as the removal of protective covers.

Residual risks The plants are designed and built according to the latest technology.

Nevertheless, there are function-based reasons hazards that can’t be eliminated entirely. These relate to:

1. The partially open and accessible shear and pinch points Countermeasures:

to 1. Keep away from these danger zones especially:

Keep children away from these zones!

If such types of hazards can’t be eliminated by technical measures, however, organizational measures, such as the use of qualified and trained staff need to be taken.

Specifications

1. Drives operating instructions of the manufacturers (included in delivery of the gates)

2. Control manuals and wiring diagrams of the manufacturer (included in the manual of the drives)

3. Technical data according to the specification plate on the gate

Commissioning The commissioning of the gate system has to be performed by an expert installation services or partners of the dealer and by taking into account the operating and assembly instructions of gate drive and controls.

1. After the mechanical installation of the gate and assembly of the drive once more again all fittings, bolts and electrical connections need to be checked for tightness and retightened if necessary

2. Check the smooth operation of the gate in an uncoupled state

3. Check all functions and control devices

4. Control of all security equipment at the gate (photocells, safety edges)

5. Attach signs "Caution Automatic Gate"

6. Instruction from an expert on site - reference to the annual maintenance and training (emergency release, main switch, operation)

7. The user manual with maintenance instructions shall be kept at the location of operation.

Review Before start = first use by the customer, the gate system might need an acceptance test being required according to national rules and regulations, e.g. in Austria acceptance test based on §

7 AMVO.

In addition, periodic testing might be also required, e.g. in Austria periodic inspection based on §

8 AMVO.

Operation manual:

1. Control of the gate function for apparent defects, such as damage to pulley blocks, gate profiles, panels, columns, accessories, drive and drive parts

2. Ensure that there are no people or animals and no goods or vehicles in the danger zone and the operation functions (on / off) are clearly visible.

3. Control of safety devices such as for example light barrier, safety contact edges, emergency stop buttons, walking door safety switches, limit switches, etc.

4. Check if nothing is obstructing the opening and closing of the gate.

5. Verify that the power supply is working.

6. Do not manipulate any of the devices and controls of the gate.

7. All usually used mandatory provisions of accident prevention in the respective country need to be considered.

8. Maintenance requirements as per installation and operating instructions for gate and drive need to be observed and performed.

Behavior at malfunction A) Mechanical disorders

1. Turn off power (main switch or house wiring / electrical distribution unit)

2. Leave Gate in the state it is and if necessary protect against further damage

3. Identify and secure the danger area

4. Inform section being responsible for maintenance B) Failure on the drive or the controller

1. Turn off power (main switch or house wiring / electrical distribution unit)

2. Turn switch to manual mode (see the operating manual of the drive) and manually operate the gate

3. Inform section being responsible for maintenance C) Bringing again to operation

1. Move gate manually to the center position.

2. Engage the emergency release.

3. Turn on Voltage supply.
