About this file
The document is a Questions and Answers Notice for Solicitation 191T7025Q0027, addressing a carpet floor renovation project at an Embassy location. The Q&A covers five key technical details about the flooring renovation, including carpet tile removal, wood flooring fire rating requirements, installation method, and door modifications. Specific clarifications include: carpet tiles can be manually removed with non-permanent glue, the Embassy requests a CFL-S1 fire rating, the wood flooring will use a floating interlocking installation (with potential glue adjustments if needed), and door planing with potential repainting is feasible. The project appears to involve replacing existing flooring with American walnut wood flooring, with careful attention to preserving underlying surfaces and meeting specific technical installation requirements.

Questions and Answers Notice ID 191T7025Q0027 – Carpet Floor Renovation
1 Q - Could the removal of the carpeting dislodge the underlying vinyl tile flooring, which may contain asbestos? If this has not already been done, both the flooring and the bituminous adhesive used for its installation should be analyzed, so that the appropriate type of intervention can be determined.
1 A - The carpet tiles are attached with non-permanent glue and can be easily removed by hand. The contractor must not use any means that can damage the underneath layer.
2 Q - What fire rating is required for the wood flooring? Many products that meet compliance standards are produced on demand, which involves longer production times. Additionally, if the flooring is floating or glued, it must be installed on non-combustible substrates to avoid being downgraded."
2 A - Customarily Embassy requests CFL-S1.
3 Q - Regarding your request for American walnut wood flooring, the item states, 'After surface preparation, spread glue on the screed...' while the next item refers to floating installation. Could you please provide clarification on the type of product to be used? Should it be floating or glued?
3 A - The flooring is floating with interlocking installation. However, if any part of the subfloor encountered during the work requires the use of glue work shall be adjusted.
4 Q - Thinning a pre-finished parquet floor can be done on the walkable surface (which would require subsequent repainting) or by intervening on the substrate. However, does this type of intervention void the manufacturer's warranty?
4 A - The technical specifications include only the planning of the doors.
5 Q - Is door planing, with the possibility of full or partial repainting or the use of finishing profiles, feasible?
5 A - Yes, it is.
