Solicitation No.: 191N6024Q0007 Title: Windows installation works at Office building
VENDOR QUESTIONS:
Question 1:
Please indicate the type of wall (Slate) that is currently existing along the window sill and jambs.
Consulate Answer:
We have got 2 inches thickness black cudappa stone cladding for the 4 inches RCC external wall on which the windows are currently installed. The top side of the windows are supported by a horizontal metal channel. Both the sides are having RCC columns.
Question 2:
How many windows can be taken up concurrently at a time?
Consulate Answer:
We are planning to complete the 10 plus 2 windows in the first floor. 2 windows only can work concurrently.
Question 3:
Please confirm that all accessories, hardware and sealant are available along with the windows onsite.
Consulate Answer:
All accessories like glasses, gaskets, hardware, sealant, fasteners will be issued along with the windows.
Question 4:
Please confirm the working hours onsite. Can work be taken up during weekends?
Normal working hrs will be 9am to 5pm but work can be done till 6pm in the evening on normal working days. We will be working during weekends too.
Question 5:
For the level 3 works, please specify time.
The work hrs for the level 3 is more likely as on the first floor but we can expect more restrictions on number of workers, work procedures like work space protection, day to day cleaning, clearing the items etc., Question 6:
The BOQ is such that the price quote is demanded for number of windows - Whereas each window includes multiple tasks (Basic preparations /Breaking &Removal /Shifting /Surface preparations /Civil works/Shifting/Assembling/erection with anchoring/fixing glass – sealants /Carpentry -false ceiling partition /painting /Snag /Fine cleaning/ handing over). Vendors won’t be able to claim billing without completing every task, which may take almost 3 to 4 months for completing full 100%. Hence request to split off the process (in 3 or 4 divisions) which facilitate for partial payments to be released.
We will rework on the BOQ so that we have separate line items for 1. civil works to dismantle the old windows, creating the openings to the required sizes and install new windows. 2. Dry wall and ceiling area repair works. Painting the areas inside and outside the windows installation areas. 3. Mylar film fixing works. 4. Setting up scaffolding for the 3rd floor windows from the side terrace.
Question 7:
Request the principle supplier Fenesta to segregate or name the frames and glasses which could be easily distinguished/ identified by the vendor (ultimately it saves time for delivery)
Consulate Answer:
We will speak to Fenesta for this activity.
Question 8:
The working time and escorts need to support (as this works sometimes creates more unpredictable surprises)
We expect less surprises because we had installed more than 100 windows for the past 2 years however, we will work on the timings and escorts to minimize the hindrances.
Question 9:
For the painting work after the installation, do we have to paint all the walls for the room or only the wall on which window is replaced has to be painted?
The window side walls only need to be painted. This includes the damages repairs made on the dry walls and ceiling areas for the installation of windows from inside. from outside the walls and cudappa stones around the windows to be painted.
Question 10:
What is the material for the false ceiling and the grid on which the ceiling panels are mounted?
The ceiling close to the windows are gyp board ceiling. Metal channels or studs are holding the gyp boards.
Question 11:
What will be the dimensions of the walls on which the windows have to be installed?
Windows are to be installed on the 4 inches RCC outer wall of the building, on the sides RCC walls or beams are there and on the top we have metal channel which can not be removed but used to fasten the screws to hold the windows from the top.
Question 12:
What will be the height of the false ceiling?
Consulate Answer:
Height of the false ceiling from the floor is 2.85 mtr. 1.60 mtr from the windowsill.
Question 13:
Do the windows provided by the US Consulate need to be assembled at site or the contractor has to fix the windows only?
New windows are to be assembled at site by the vendor as per the instructions from the manufacturer Fenesta and an approval need to be obtained for the first window as a sample to proceed further. The answer for question 7 also related to this question 13.
Question 14:
Kindly provide the cross-sectional diagram/ drawing of the wall section incorporating the sill and lintel levels of the Window openings?
This is a one-to-one replacement project. The old windows are shown at the time of site visit. The installation procedures are explained. The bottom portion needs a major finishing work because the vendor need to create a 6-8 inches width solid base to cover the 4 inches RCC wall, 2 inches cudappa stone and the 2 inches gap between the wall and the stone so that the window sill would sit firmly and can be anchored. There are RCC beams at the sides which needs cement finishing and on the top metal channels to drive the screws.
Question 15:
Are the existing windows fixed using fasteners or holdfasts embedded in the wall using concrete?
The existing windows are heavy metal framed windows which are welded to the holdfasts embedded in the wall on all the four sides. A metal cutter is required to detach the window frames from the walls.
Question 16:
What type of paint is already applied on the walls.
Consulate Answer:
Premium quality emulsion paint for the interior walls and ceiling. The black stones outside are painted with premium quality enamel paint.
Question 17:
In how many windows the partition wall and false ceiling is attached?
All the windows are touching the gyp board false ceiling on the top. The 10 big windows on the first floor are attached to the partition walls at 12 locations. The 10 windows in 3rd floor do not have partitions. The 2 small windows on first floor (open area) have got one partition.
