About this file
This file contains cone penetration test (CPT) data, test pit logs, and Atterberg limits test results for geotechnical investigations at the Sack Dam Bypass Channel and Arroyo Canal Fish Screen/Fish Passage project sites. The CPT data shows soil behavior types, cone resistance, friction ratio, and pore pressure measurements at various depths up to approximately 72 feet, with testing conducted in August 2023. Multiple test pits (TP-12-1 through TP-12-5) were excavated in October 2012 to depths ranging from 3.4 to 8.5 feet using a John Deere 310J excavator, revealing primarily poorly graded sands (SP), silty sands (SM), and lean clays (CL).
The soil investigation results indicate generally sandy conditions with interbedded clay layers. Groundwater was encountered between 3-7 feet below ground surface. The Atterberg limits testing on various soil samples showed liquid limits ranging from non-plastic to 35, and plasticity indices from non-plastic to 19, with most soils classifying as either sandy or low plasticity materials. This geotechnical data appears to be part of the site characterization for design of the fish passage and canal improvements at the Sack Dam location.
