About this file
This document is an amendment to a federal solicitation providing answers to contractor questions regarding the Hungry Horse Dam Drainage Sump Pump Replacements project. Key details include that the project involves replacing two drainage sump pumps located within Hungry Horse Dam. The specifications call for new pump feeders to be run in two conduits from new panelboards to an automatic transfer switch. The amendment clarifies material requirements for the new piping and provides photos of existing electrical equipment. It also addresses contractor questions about existing conduit and wire sizes, temporary pumping needs during construction, asbestos and lead abatement requirements, lighting panel outage times, and equipment specifications.

140R1021B0008/0006 or an ¿or equal¿ to supply this switch. a. Please provide more details for the supply of this switch.
Answer: Reference Specification 22 14 30 Sump
Pumping Systems, Section 2.02A for requirements of High Level Alarms.
30. Contract Drawing 447-100-60170 Section B-B shows a ¿4-port float switch connection system¿ just above elevation 3055.00, however the specs do not provide detail or an ¿or equal¿ to supply this connection system.
a. It is industry standard that the pump suppliers provide the controls to include the floats along with wiring harness that terminates directly to the pump control box.
i. The pump suppliers do not have an off-shelf system as described on the plans.
ii. The pump suppliers do not recommend a connection for the floats to be made in that area due to possible failures.
iii. The specs provide no details for a custom switch, no ratings, type or an ¿or equal¿
b. Please provide a specification for the supply or allow for direct termination into the pump panel at elevation 3135.00.
Answer: The design intent of the ¿4-port float switch connection system¿ is to eliminate the need to replace full length float switch cables from elevation 3055.00¿ to the control box at elevation 3135.00¿. By having a float port or junction box at the 3055.00¿ elevation the float switches for each of the pumps can be tied in or spliced at this level. If a float switch should fail or be faulty at some point in the future, Hungry Horse personnel can easily replace the short float section of cable and float from the port at elevation 3055.00¿ to the float location in the sump. The specs do not have ¿or equal¿ in this instance to allow the contractor flexibility in choosing components to make the float system work. Please reference 22 14 30 Section 2.01 Sump
Pumping Units and also 22 00 00 Basic Mechanical
Requirements for requirements of Sump System
Design.

140R1021B0008/0006 affect at least 3 other lighting panel boards.
How do they want us to address that, how long can they be down?
Answer: DSA 3 & DSA 18 will only be deenergized one at a time. People working in the dam will need to have portable/battery powered lighting.
The Lighting Panels can be deenergized for the duration of the PEB/PGB Panel replacements. The outages will need to be coordinated with
Operations.
32. Specs call out grounding bushings and conduit seals on each conduit end. Only one of them can occupy the end of the conduit. Which one?
Answer: Grounding bushings and conduit seals on each conduit is typical/common installation for the application and per industry standards.
33. Is there an asbestos study that includes the old feeder wires?
Answer: No.
34. "The scope calls out for the new pump feeders that leave the new panelboards PGB and PEB to be in a 2¿ conduit to the PEM. The plans show 1¿ conduits in the tunnel.
a. How long are those runs of 1¿ that have to be upsized to 2¿ for the new 3#1/0, #6 grd.
b. Can we have pictures of where those 1¿ conduits connect to PGB and PEP
c. Our notes show there are no 1¿ conduits coming into the PGB and PEB, where is the transition from pump chamber 1"" to 2"" in the panelboards"
Answer: Regarding the 1" conduit shown in drawing
447-D-1793, HHFO assume the run of the 1" conduit to be 150' for bidding purposes. Actual length to be field verified. The picture isn't available, it needs field verification.
35. Is there drawings illustrating the control wiring for the ATS, and makes it cycle?
Answer: The drawing isn't available. The new ATS will be designed per the drawings and specifications.
