About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for Solicitation #140P8425Q0047, related to supplying a generator for Lassen Volcanic National Park. The solicitation seeks a stationary 30KW generator with specific electrical requirements: 120/240V voltage, producing 125 amps at 240 volts, with a 200A transfer switch rated for indoor use. The transfer switch will be located indoors next to a subpanel and does not need to be service entrance rated. The current electrical configuration uses single-phase power with two hot lines, a neutral, and a ground, despite the existing generator being 3-phase capable. Importantly, this is a supply-only solicitation, meaning the contract does not include installation of the generator or transfer switch.

Questions and Answers Solicitation #140P8425Q0047 Lassen Volcanic National Park Supply and Deliver Generator

Question: What is the voltage needed for the generator – 120/280v or 120/240v?

Answer: 120/240V

Question: What is the amperage for the transfer switch (100 amps, 200 amps, etc.)?

Answer: 200A

Question: Could you please let me know what the voltage is o the 3-phase generator to be supplied for the Lassen park standby generator project?

Answer: Voltage in question #1. Even though the current generator is capable of 3-phase, it is currently only being used as a 1 phase generator. All of our equipment with motors is wired as 1 phase, so either a single-phase generator or a 3 phase generator should work

(since 3 phase generators also provide functionality to one phase electrical devices).

Question: Could you please advise on the voltage, as it was not specified in the SOW or specifications?

Answer: 120/240V

Question: We would like to confirm whether the generator is required to be 200 amps?

Answer: A 30,000-watt generator which produces 125 amps at 240 volts is more than sufficient for our needs.

Question: What type of 30KW generator is required: stationary or mobile?

Answer: STATIONARY

Question: Does the ATS need to be rated for indoor or outdoor use?

Answer: THE CURRENT MANUAL TRANSFER SWITCH IS LOCATED INDOORS NEXT TO A

SUBPANEL THAT RUNS THE PLANT. THE NEW AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH WILL BE

REPLACING THIS, SO IT ONLY NEEDS TO BE RATED FOR INDOOR USE.

Question: Should it be service entrance rated or not?

Answer: THE SUBPANEL SWITCHED BY THE TRANSFER SWITCH IS DOWNSTREAM OF THE

SERVICE ENTRANCE PANEL, SO NO.

Question: How many poles are required?

Answer: WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY, NOR DO WE PLAN ON RUNNING 3-PHASE

EQUIPMENT IN THE WATER PLANT. CURRENT SUPPLY IS CONFIGURED AS 120/240V. THOUGH

THE CURRENT GENERATOR IS 3 PHASE CAPABLE, THAT CAPABILITY IS NOT BEING USED. JUST 2

HOTS, A NEUTRAL AND A GROUND.

Question: Does this contract also include installation of the New 30 K standby generator and transfer switch?

Answer: This is a supply only solicitation.
