About this file
This file is a Question and Answer (Q&A) document, specifically Q&A #2, issued as Amendment 0002 to Solicitation Number 140P8126Q0050 for restoring log cabin exterior wood components at Parashant National Monument.
The Q&A clarifies the application sequence for wood finishing products on media-blasted surfaces. The contractor's question addressed a discrepancy between the Statement of Work Part 2, which did not list Perma-Chink Prelude as a required product, and Attachment 7 (the Perma-Chink Wood Stains and Finishes Application Guide), which recommended Prelude as a primer on media-blasted surfaces to ensure uniform color and prevent darker staining. The Government's response confirms that Perma-Chink Prelude must be applied as a primer to approximately 1,235 square feet of media-blasted railings, spindles, and stair posts prior to application of Lifeline Ultra-7 stain in Chestnut color, in accordance with the manufacturer's application guide. This amendment is issued by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Pacific West Region.

Q&A #2 140P8126Q0050 – PARA Log Cabins
Q1: SOW Part 2 lists the products to be used and does not include Perma-Chink Prelude. Attachment 7, the Perma-Chink Wood Stains and Finishes Application Guide included with the solicitation, states on page 5 that Prelude should be used as a primer on media-blasted surfaces to even out the color of Lifeline stain and prevent the color from coming out considerably darker due to porosity.
The SOW calls for media blasting on approximately 1,235 SF of railings, spindles and stair posts, followed by Lifeline Ultra-7 in Chestnut. Question: does the Government want Prelude applied to the media-blasted surfaces before the Ultra-7, or is the stain to be applied directly to the blasted wood without a primer?
A1: Apply the Prelude as a primer, to the media-blasted surfaces prior to the application of the Lifeline Ultra-7, in accordance with the Perma-Chink Wood Stains and Finishes Application Guide.
