About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding Amendment 5 of a federal solicitation to remove and install a new HVAC system. Key details include specifications for replacing the geothermal piping loop with a new fluid cooler and natural gas boiler near an existing maintenance building. The existing heat pumps and an attic ductless split system will also be replaced with new units, and energy recovery ventilators will be added. Insulation requirements were updated to call for polyisocyanurate board instead of extruded polystyrene. The roofing warranty requirement was clarified as accepting a 20-year warranty with a 60 mil membrane rather than requiring a 30-year warranty with a 90 mil membrane. Steel stairs have been added to building plans to accommodate entrance below grade. The EPDM roofing system will be provided over the boiler room as specified.

140P6220B0002 Amendment 5 – Attachment 31 Page 1 of 1
Question: Would Precision be accepted as an alternate manufacturer for the mullions?
Answer: We are not permitted to pre-approve a manufacturer. However, See the revised Section 087100, Amendment 5, Attachment 26. The proper alternate approval process can be found at Section 01 33 23, Submittal Procedures and is used after the award has been made.
In section 087100 hdw set # 3- for the best 45 mortise lock. Its displayed as 45H7R X 15J Lever X S3.
Does the NPS want the 15J trim style or the S3 trim and rose?
Answer: The S3 is the wrong number. The correct callout is S1. The mortise lock should read 45H7R x 15J Lever x S1 in hardware set no. 3. The spec section has been updated.
Question: If the S3 is not a trim function you are needing, the only thing showing close to an S3- is the 0S3 for an outside emergency plate? Or is it an ISM for inside lever cylinder?
Answer: The S3 is the wrong number. The correct callout is S1. The mortise lock should read 45H7R x 15J Lever x S1 in hardware set no. 3. The spec section has been updated.
Question: The HM doors and frames that are being installed in the maintenance building are above the grade of the maintenance building floor, or better stated, the maintenance building floor is below grade by about three to four feet. How does the NPS want the stairs and landing built to accommodate this issue?
Answer: Steel stairs have been added to the plans. See revised drawing attached to Amendment 5.
Question: Does the NPS want to standardize their roof and apply a mod-bit system and simplify matters for later if the entire roof structure ever needs to be replaced?
Answer: Provide the EPDM system over the boiler room.
Question: The specs call for two 1" layers extruded polystyrene (this is Styrofoam which does not appear to be a correct application for this project)?
Answer: The specifications have been updated to call for polyisosyanurate insulation board.
Question: The specifications for the roof system as specified are calling for a 30-year warranty. The manufacturers will only provide a 30-year warranty for a 90 mil product. The specs for the NPS project call for a 60 mil only and the highest warranty on a 60 mil is 25 years, a 20-year warranty is an industry standard warranty. Will the NPS clarify if it wants to increase the requirement to a 90 mil and buy the 30-year system or will a 20-year warranty and 60 mil system suffice?
Answer: A 20-year warranty and 60 mil system is acceptable.
