SECTION 087100
DOOR HARDWARE
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Section Includes:
1. Mechanical door hardware for the following:
a. Swinging doors.
2. Cylinders.
3. Electrified door hardware.
1.2 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS
A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.
B. Keying Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.
1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product.
B. Shop Drawings: For electrified door hardware.
1. Include diagrams for power, signal, and control wiring.
2. Include details of interface of electrified door hardware and building safety and security systems if any.
C. Samples: For each exposed product in each finish specified.
D. Door hardware schedule.
1. If submitting hardware products as proposed equals to the Name Brand products specified in article 3.3 DOOR HARDWARE SCHEDULE provide the following for review and approval:
a. Hardware product cuts sheets for both the Name Brand products specified and the hardware cuts sheets for the proposed equals being submitted for approval.
b. Include a comparison of the name brand specified hardware products and the proposed equals showing how the proposed selections are equal to the name brand hardware specified.
E. Keying schedule.
1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
A. Maintenance data.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: Supplier of products and an employer of workers trained and approved by product manufacturers and of an Architectural Hardware Consultant who is available during the course of the Work to consult Contractor, Contracting Office Representative (COR), and National Park Service (NPS) about door hardware and keying.
1. Scheduling Responsibility: Preparation of door hardware and keying schedule.
B. Architectural Hardware Consultant Qualifications: A person who is experienced in providing consulting services for door hardware installations that are comparable in material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project and who is currently certified by DHI as an Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) and an Electrified Hardware Consultant (EHC).
1.7 WARRANTY
A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of door hardware that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.
1. Warranty Period: Three years from date of Substantial Completion unless otherwise indicated below:
a. Exit Devices: Two years from date of Substantial Completion.
b. Manual Closers: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Electrified Door Hardware: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.
B. Means of Egress Doors: Latches do not require more than 15 lbf (67 N) to release the latch.
Locks do not require use of a key, tool, or special knowledge for operation.
C. Accessibility Requirements: For door hardware on doors in an accessible route, comply with the DOJ's "2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design" and National Park Service accessibility requirements.
2.2 SCHEDULED DOOR HARDWARE
A. Provide door hardware for each door as scheduled in Part 3 "Door Hardware Schedule" Article to comply with requirements in this Section.
1. Door Hardware Sets: Provide quantity, item, size, finish or color indicated, and products equivalent in function and comparable in quality to named products.
2. Sequence of Operation: Provide electrified door hardware function, sequence of operation, and interface with other building control systems indicated.

3. Opening-Force Requirements:
a. Egress Doors: Not more than 15 lbf (67 N) to release the latch and not more than 30 lbf (133 N) to set the door in motion and not more than 15 lbf (67 N) to open the door to its minimum required width.
b. Accessible Interior Doors: Not more than 5 lbf (22.2 N) to fully open door.
B. Designations: Requirements for design, grade, function, finish, size, and other distinctive qualities of each type of door hardware are indicated in Part 3 "Door Hardware Schedule" Article. Products are identified by using door hardware designations, as follows:
1. Named Manufacturers' Products: Manufacturer and product designation are listed for each door hardware type required for the purpose of establishing minimum requirements.
Manufacturers' names are abbreviated in Part 3 "Door Hardware Schedule" Article.
2. References to Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) Designations:
Provide products complying with these designations and requirements for description, quality, and function for aluminum-framed entrance doors.
C. Door Hardware Product Characteristics:
1. Hinges:
a. Material: Stainless Steel Base.
b. Type: Bearing Hinges – Heavy Weight.
2. Exit Devices:
a. ANSI A156.3 Function, Grade and Type: Grade 1, Type 2.
b. Groove case.
c. Non-handed unless noted with SD (special dogging).
d. Escutcheon Plate: 3 inch wide x 14 inch high x 3/32 inch thick minimum.
e. Night Latch: Key retracts latchbolt, optional pull required.
f. Options: As noted.
3. Locks:
a. Mortise Lever Lock.
b. Deadbolt: Stainless Steel, 1” throw.
c. Latchbolt: Solid Stainless Steel, 3/4” throw.
d. Case: 0.095 cold rolled steel, 5-7/8” High x 7/8” Deep x 4-1/16” Wide. Steel zinc dichromate plated for corrosion protection.
e. Faceplate: Stainless steel, brass or bronze material, 8" H x 1 1/4" W x 1/16" T.
Lock face automatically adjusts to proper bevel during installation.
f. Finish: Satin Chrome.
g. Standard Lever Handle: 15J Lever Style.
h. Rose: S Flat with beveled edge, 3/1/2” diameter.
i. Function: As noted in the hardware schedule.
4. Deadlocks:
a. Mortise Deadlock.
b. Case: 0.095” cold rolled steel, 3 3/8” x 4 3/16” x 1”. Steel is zinc dichromate plated for corrosion protection.
c. Faceplate: Brass or bronze material, 5 3/8” x 1 3/16” x 7/32”.

d. Strike: Brass, bronze, or stainless steel base material.
48HS1: Flat strike supplied standard, 3 1/2” x 1 1/8” x 3/32” Fits standard door frame cut-out as specified in ANSI A115.5.
e. Backset: 2 3/4”.
f. Deadbolt: Stainless steel, 1” throw.
5. Stops:
a. Material: Stainless Steel with Rubber Bumper.
b. Concealed mounting.
c. Convex bumper.
d. Size: 2-1/2” diameter, and 3/4" projection.
e. Weight: 1.8 lbs.
f. Comply with ANSI A156.16: L02251.
6. Flat Goods:
a. Kick Plates
1) Metal kick plate-standard duty
2) Thickness: 0.050 inch.
3) Material: Stainless steel.
b. Push Plate:
1) Stainless steel push plate.
2) Plate: 70.
3) Size: 4” x 16” inch.
4) Four beveled edges.
5) Fasteners: #6 x 5/8” OH SMS.
c. Pull Plate:
1) Stainless steel push plate.
2) Plate: 70.

5) Fasteners: #6 x 5/8” OH SMS; 1/4 – 20 x 2-1/4 thru bolt and finish washer
(for standard 1-3/4” door, adjust as required for door thickness).

7. Cylinders:
a. Mortise Cylinder by Best with Best 7 pin removable cores.
8. Closers:
a. Heavy duty cast iron body closure.
b. Full complement bearing.
c. 1-1/2 inch diameter piston.

9. Removable Mullion:
a. Steel mullion.
b. 2 inch x 3-1/8 inch with wall thickness of 1/8 inch.

c. Typical wall .125 thick, and 058 lbs. per foot.
d. Non-slip surface.
11. Weather Stripping:
a. Manufacturer's standard replaceable components.
12. Weather Sweeps:
a. Manufacturer's standard exterior-door bottom sweep with concealed fasteners on mounting strip.
13. Gasketing:
a. Size: 3/16” X 1-1/8”.
b. Material: Closed cell neoprene.
c. Adhesive backing.
14. Astragal Strip:
a. Double fin self-adhesive astragal/meeting stile seal.
b. Color: Black.
c. Material: Silicone.
d. Rated for air seal, smoke seal, fire rated, and BHMA certified.
15. Rain Guard:
a. Top of door rain drip strip.
b. Size: 2-1/2” width x 5/8” height.

16. Silencers:

17. Thresholds:
a. BHMA A156.21 raised thresholds beveled with a slope of not more than 1:2, with maximum height of 1/2 inch (12.7 mm).
2.3 KEYING
A. Keying System: Factory registered, complying with guidelines in BHMA A156.28, appendix. Provide one extra key blank for each lock. Incorporate decisions made in keying conference.
1. Existing System:
a. Master key or grand master key locks to National Park Service’s (NPS’s) existing system.
b. Re-key NPS's existing master key system into new keying system.

2. Keyed Alike: Key all cylinders to same change key.
B. Keys:
1. Brass.
2. Stamping: Permanently inscribe each key with a visual key control number and include the following notation:
a. Notation: "U.S. Property - DO NOT DUPLICATE."
C. Keying arrangements and requirements for all new locks shall be coordinated directly between the hardware supplier and the Government.
a. Conversion from construction keying to permanent building keying shall be performed by the Government. The hardware subcontractor shall be available to assist the Government as necessary. The cost of all cores and keys shall be included in this Combined Contract.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Steel Doors and Frames: For surface applied door hardware, drill and tap doors and frames according to ANSI/SDI A250.6.
B. Mounting Heights: Mount door hardware units at heights indicated on Drawings Comply with the following for new installations unless otherwise indicated or required to comply with governing regulations.
1. Hardware Mounting Heights: The following are from the Steel Door Institute (SDI) publication SDI A250.8 – Table 5. This height should be coordinated with the manufacturer’s shop drawing submittal.
a. Locks and Latches: 38” – 42” (965 mm – 1067 mm) Centerline of Lock Strike from Bottom of Frame.
b. Rim and Mortise Panic Devices: 38” – 42” (965 mm – 1067 mm) Centerline of Lock Strike from Bottom of Frame.
c. Cylindrical and Mortise Deadlocks: 48” (1219 mm) to Centerline of Strike from Bottom of Frame. Note: Cylindrical and Mortise Deadlock strike to be located 48” (1219 mm) from the bottom of the frame unless noted or specified otherwise.
d. Push Plates: Centerline 45” (1143mm) from Bottom of Frame.
e. Pull Plates: Centerline of Grip @ 42” (1067 mm) from Bottom of Frame.
f. Combination Push Bar: Centerline 42” (1067 mm) from Bottom of Frame.
g. Hinges – Top: Up to 11-3/4” (298.5 mm) from Rabbit Section of Frame to
Centerline of Hinge.
h. Hinges – Bottom: Up to 13” (330.2 mm) from Bottom of Frame to Centerline of
Hinge.
i. Hinges – Intermediate: Equally Spaced Between Top and Bottom Hinges.
C. Install each door hardware item to comply with manufacturer's written instructions. Where cutting and fitting are required to install door hardware onto or into surfaces that are later to be painted or finished in another way, coordinate removal, storage, and reinstallation of surface protective trim units with finishing work. Do not install surface-mounted items until finishes have been completed on substrates involved.

D. Hinges: Install types and in quantities indicated in door hardware schedule, but not fewer than the number recommended by manufacturer for application indicated or one hinge for every 30 inches (750 mm) of door height, whichever is more stringent, unless other equivalent means of support for door, such as spring hinges or pivots, are provided.
E. Lock Cylinders: Install construction cores to secure building and areas during construction period.
1. Government to furnish permanent cores. Contractor responsible for ensuring compatibility between cores and locking system.
F. Thresholds: Set thresholds for exterior doors and other doors indicated in full bed of sealant complying with requirements specified in Section 079200 "Joint Sealants."
G. Stops: Provide floor stops for doors unless wall or other type stops are indicated in door hardware schedule. Do not mount floor stops where they will impede traffic.
H. Perimeter Gasketing: Apply to head and jamb, forming seal between door and frame.
1. Do not notch perimeter gasketing to install other surface-applied hardware.
I. Meeting Stile Gasketing: Fasten to meeting stiles, forming seal when doors are closed.
J. Door Bottoms: Apply to bottom of door, forming seal with threshold when door is closed.
3.2 ADJUSTING
A. Adjust and check each operating item of door hardware and each door to ensure proper operation or function of every unit. Replace units that cannot be adjusted to operate as intended. Adjust door control devices to compensate for final operation of heating and ventilating equipment and to comply with referenced accessibility requirements.
3.3 DOOR HARDWARE SCHEDULE
A. Reference to brand name equipment or materials shall be regarded as establishing a standard of quality and shall not be construed as limiting competition.
