About this file

This is a federal construction specification document (Section 07 53 23) for ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (EPDM) roofing installation at the General Grant National Memorial in New York. The specification establishes requirements for a fully-adhered EPDM roofing system replacement project with comprehensive performance and installation standards.

The roofing system must comply with SPRI's Directory of Roof Assemblies with a wind uplift load capacity of 90 psf and achieve Class A exterior fire-test exposure per ASTM E108 or UL 790. The membrane specification requires 90-mil-thick non-reinforced EPDM sheet in white with standard widths of 10 feet and lengths of 100 feet, sourced from approved manufacturers such as Carlisle Syntec Systems or equivalent, with all polymeric components manufactured by the roofing system manufacturer. The roofing system must achieve ENERGY STAR listing with minimum solar reflectance of 0.70 and emissivity of 0.75 per ANSI/CRRC S100. Insulation must be ASTM 1289-06 Type II Class 2 rigid polyisocyanurate foam boards (2.5 inches thick, 48 by 96 inches) approved for the listed roof assembly. The specification requires a 30-year manufacturer warranty on materials and components and a 2-year installer warranty. Quality assurance includes flood testing per ASTM D5957 to 2.5 inches depth for 24 hours, with contractor responsibility for retesting costs. A preinstallation roofing conference with the manufacturer's technical representative is mandatory before roof removal begins. Submittals required include product data, shop drawings, performance certificates, wind uplift resistance documentation, and sample warranties.
