The solicitation seeks to procure construction services including furnaces, HVAC equipment, wood doors, skylights, and room identification panel signage. Bidders requested clarification on equipment approvals, deviations from design documents, and door styles. Replace Dilapidated Visitor Center Facility Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument
(LIBI 241430)
Solicitation 140P2023R0150 Amendment 6 Questions and Answers (Final Amendment) November 14, 2023
64. A bidder is saying that one of the basis-of-design manufacturers (ThyssenKrupp) is telling them they can’t provide an elevator that will meet our needs. See email below and list of manufacturers from Spec 14 21 00. Are you sure either KONE or Schindler can make an elevator that meets our needs?
Item #5 in TK’s proposal indicates that the top landing of the elevator must be a climate controlled space (apparently the system controls for the elevator are in the door frame at this level). We do not have this “climate controlled” vestibule at the roof level on the building. TK also indicated that they need space for their equipment (not sure at what floor, but he indicated at least a 3’ wide x 2’ deep space.
RESPONSE: The General Contractor is to submit an elevator that meets the design intent.
65. I am reaching out to see if you have an email address for the correct person to send in prior approvals for the furnace equipment and a few other HVAC equipment items for the above subject project. I have a few HVAC installers asking for equipment quotes on the furnaces/HVAC package and I wanted to request approval for Daikin Furnaces before bidding.
RESPONSE: Daikin is an acceptable manufacturer for Furnaces.
66. How should we address items that will deviate from the provided project design? Are any alternates on materials and manufactures acceptable?
0. For example, one of the pre-approved manufacturers for the skylight(s), cannot achieve the radius curves that are shown on the plans. Furthermore, they claim that they will not be able to manufacture the skylights.
0. Also, we have a conflict between the specification for the room panel signage on materials to be used (101423) and what is called out for the materials on plan page A6.4. The suppliers are indicating that there isn’t a signage company that can make the signs as shown on plan page A6.4.
RESPONSE: Please see attached clarified sheet A6.4 and Specifications Section 101423 Room Identification Panel Signage. They are welcomed to provide a substitution request meeting the design intent.
67. We have been asked to bid the new visitor center at the Little Bighorn Battlefield. We are requesting a clarification to make sure that the doors we bid match the required product. The wood door spec calls out flush white oak slabs. The elevation appears to be a plank or v-groove slab. Which is required for the project. None of the listed manufacturers are able to produce a plank or v-groove door. If the intent is a plank/v-groove appearance are we able to reach out to other manufacturers like Simpson Door?
RESPONSE: The pattern on the elevation is a wood pattern hatch only. There are no plank or v-groove appearances. It’s drawn in that way to differentiate from the hollow metal doors visually.
