Construction Specifications Section 01 11 00 (1.11) (D)
This passage requires the Contractor to coordinate with the Contracting Officer with respect to archeological monitoring. Add the following language after (D)(1):
2. Where ground disturbance is planned, an NPS archaeologist and/or tribal monitor will monitor the activity to ensure the documentation of previously unidentified subsurface deposits or artifacts.
3. If features or artifacts are encountered, either by the contractors or by the monitoring archaeologist, work will cease in that immediate area until the NPS archaeologist can document the findings. If resources are discovered that may be historically significant or unanticipated effects on historic properties found, NPS will document the resources in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for archaeological documentation and may need to continue consultation while the area is secured. Work will cease in that area to allow for appropriate recording and protection of features/artifacts.
4. If human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, or objects of cultural patrimony are inadvertently discovered, work will cease in the area, and the NPS archaeologist will be notified immediately. The inadvertent discoveries are subject to the plan developed for this project in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) (43 CFR § 10.4).
