Summary of Submittals for Pompey's Pillar Interpretive Center

This document contains technical submittals for water treatment equipment and components for the Pompey's Pillar Interpretive Center project, dated May 20-22, 2005. The project requires a Chemical Free Iron Filter System (Model ACF 24-1.5FTTO-CC) designed to remove ferric iron, ferrous iron, bacterial iron, and colloidal iron from well water. The system operates by introducing a controlled amount of air to oxidize iron, raising pH to approximately 8.5, with the filter media consisting of magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate, and fine filter sand. The filter has limitations including a minimum pH requirement of 6.0, a maximum hydrogen sulfide limit of 2-3 ppm, and a maximum manageable manganese level of 1 mg/l. The system features no upper limit for iron removal, requires no chemicals for regeneration, uses only 50 gallons of water for backwash, and operates with a 16-minute cycle allowing filtered water availability for 23 hours and 44 minutes daily.

The water treatment system includes three 24-inch diameter, 72-inch height filter tanks operating at 100 psi design working pressure, with normal service flow of 9 gallons per minute, maximum service flow of 25 gallons per minute, and backwash flow of 30 gallons per minute. Component specifications include a 1-inch hydrocharger, 1.5-inch main piping, a Fleck 2850 filter control valve with calendar clock initiation for backwash cycles every 4 days at 30 gallons per minute for 7 minutes, air injection via Mazzei model 1583 injector at 25.2 gpm, two HP-9 contact tanks, a Goulds 33GS20 potable water pump rated at 35 gallons per minute at 75 psi, an Ecodyne S91B duplex water softener, and chemical injection via Stenner SVP pump. The backwash uses treated well water rather than potable water, with the system designed to regenerate approximately 7.5 times in a 4-day period based on calculated usage of 1,122 gallons per 4 days.
