About this file
This is a specification document for plastic double-dome skylights within Division 7 (Thermal and Moisture Protection) of a federal construction specification standard (Section 07815, Revision 2-89).
The specification requires contractors to furnish and install double-dome, rectangular or octagonal skylights with the following key requirements: Acrylic plastic construction with exterior clear and interior translucent white domes per AAMA 1601.1 thickness specifications; aluminum frame and retainer of extruded alloy 6063-T5 with integral sloped condensation and weepage gutters, heliarc welded, 0.08 inch minimum thickness, dark bronze color; and insulated aluminum or wood-built roof curbs. Gaskets and fasteners must be manufacturer-recommended. Installation must include complete assembly with all related flashings, gutters, liners, fasteners, hardware, and sealants for weatherproof operation. A protective coating of asphaltic paint or neutral, non-absorptive isolator material must be applied where aluminum contacts dissimilar materials to prevent electrolysis and corrosion. Delivery units must be completely assembled and ready for installation, packaged to prevent scratching, breakage, or racking. Quality assurance failure criteria include passage of air, rain, or snow-melt to interior surfaces; loosening of units from curb; and evidence of electrolysis or corrosion between dissimilar materials. Contractors must submit five copies of shop drawings and follow general submittals procedures per Section 01300.
