About this file
This is a technical specification document for the Metal Building Roofing and Thermal Insulation Replacement Systems section of a roof repair project at Lamar Community College in Colorado (Project Number 2024-077M23). The project encompasses the replacement of standing seam metal roof panels, thermal insulation systems, and associated accessories for the indoor arena and stalls facility. The specification requires the contractor to engage a qualified professional engineer to review existing field conditions and design appropriate replacement systems meeting established material and performance criteria. Key submittals include product data, shop drawings with anchorage and load calculations, delegated-design submittals signed and sealed by a professional engineer, welding certificates, and a letter of design certification documenting compliance with AISC and AISI standards. A preinstallation conference must be conducted at the project site prior to commencing work.
The specification establishes comprehensive performance requirements including structural performance for wind loads, snow loads (30 psf ground load), seismic design per ASCE/SEI 7, thermal movement accommodation (120°F ambient and 180°F material surface temperature changes), air infiltration limits of 0.06 cfm/sq. ft., and water penetration resistance testing per ASTM standards. The roofing thermal insulation must achieve a minimum R-30 value (maximum U-factor 0.035) and utilize glass-fiber-blanket insulation per ASTM C991 with vapor-retarder facing. Basis-of-design products include Nucor CFR Standing Seam Roof System with three-coat fluoropolymer finish and Nucor Sag-N-Bag double-layer insulation, with approved equal manufacturers identified including Central States Manufacturing, MetlSpan, Butler Manufacturing Company, and Ceco. The contractor must provide 20-year warranties on both metal panel finishes and weathertightness of standing-seam assemblies from the date of substantial completion. Installation requirements include thermal spacer blocks, proper vapor-retarder sealing, concealed fastener clips, and snow guards to replace existing units.
