About this file

This document is a technical specification (Specification 814) for asphalt pavement patching, detailing precise requirements for pothole repair on National Forest Land. The specification outlines comprehensive maintenance requirements including material specifications (3/4" Hot asphalt concrete pavement, Caltrans Type A, Grading: PG 64-10), detailed pothole repair procedures, and disposal guidelines. Key technical requirements include removing existing materials to a minimum of 4 inches below the asphalt surface, creating rectangular holes with vertical faces, backfilling with excavation materials or crushed aggregate in 6-inch layers, and compacting each layer until visual displacement ceases. The patch must be placed in layers not exceeding 4 inches and compacted to be flush with or slightly above the adjacent pavement surface. Payment for the work will be measured by ton for pothole patching, with rejected materials to be deducted based on estimated quantities.
