About this file
This document contains a set of questions and answers related to a federal contract opportunity for a prefabricated greenhouse in Edinburg, Texas. The key details are:
The contracting agency is the Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Marketing and Regulatory Programs Business Services. The solicitation number is 12639524R0011, and the opportunity is for a prefabricated greenhouse. The questions and answers cover technical specifications such as rafter spacing, stainless steel connections, venting, manual machine requirements, shade structure details, and acceptable door sizes. The responses indicate that 8-foot rafter spacing is acceptable, stainless steel or hot-dipped internal components are required due to corrosion concerns, automatic vents with manual backups are acceptable, and standard 36-inch doors are allowed. The document also includes a link to an alternative control system that the agency prefers not to use unless it is considered equivalent to the incumbent Wadsworth system. Bolted connections, rather than welding, are acceptable for the structure.

1) Because of the high wind load requirements, rafter spacing is likely to change. Is a width narrower than 12’ OC acceptable? Our initial estimates have been 8’ rafter spacing to meet the required loads. Yes
2) Stainless steel connections: Are internal components required to be stainless or hot dipped? They are not exposed to the elements and having stainless throughout will significantly increase the price of the structure. Given the high moisture levels in the greenhouses, it's crucial to address potential corrosion concerns. While stainless steel throughout the structure may increase costs significantly, it's important to ensure that internal components are adequately protected against corrosion, either through the use of stainless steel or hot-dipped materials, to maintain structural integrity over time.
3) Venting etc. – There is quite a bit of variation here and the pricing varies quite a bit. Are you looking for the most economic solution, or the most functional solution? Please strive for a balanced compromise that incorporates both economic viability and functional efficiency.
4) Vents continued – Are steel assemblies allowed for elbow arms on the vents? Yes
5) Manual Machines – Are these required for every vent or can the vents be automatic and have a manual backup (just not a pull chain or crank)? Automatic vents with a manual backup are acceptable.
6) Are there any pictures of the shade sliding rail? The shade cloth is equipped with a PVC rod along its edge to ensure extension. It is positioned above several wires, maintaining suspension beneath the lights while providing sufficient height above the plants for easy adjustment— either opening or closing. Additionally, a PVC bar located in the center facilitates the opening and closing of the shade cloth. Suggestion: Coating the wires with PVC would enhance the longevity of the shade cloth, preserving its condition over time. (Refer to the pre-sunrise images below for visual reference).
7) Are ADA doors required or will standard 36” doors work? Standard 36” are acceptable.
8) Do you consider Link4 a Wadsworth equal? https://link4controls.com/ Given that all our other units are Wadsworth, we prefer to maintain consistency for future programming and maintenance purposes. Therefore, we would prefer to stick with Wadsworth products unless Link4 or another brand can be considered equivalent in terms of compatibility and functionality.
9) Will bolted connections be acceptable for the structure? We do not do or require any welding on site for our structures. Yes https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flink4controls.com%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cjames.g.roloff%40usda.gov%7C7a389f2f1443400edc0e08dc48d23dbe%7Ced5b36e701ee4ebc867ee03cfa0d4697%7C1%7C0%7C638465315017288819%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=2DgORrBlNyk%2FpfXFQ1hISzDH3wZ8fkqfHByKFWW0vAo%3D&reserved=0
