About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document related to an RFI for the MOF Lake Sherwood Dump Station Upgrades project. The document addresses four site-specific environmental and construction questions submitted by potential bidders regarding the planned upgrades.
The key issues addressed include: (1) concerns about potential tree damage during trench excavation from the lift station to the road, with approval granted for tree removal subject to wildlife scientist review; (2) confirmation that stockpiled topsoil from excavation may be reused during backfill; (3) clarification that no seeding is required in the forested area with no existing grass, with only cleanup required; and (4) approval for running the pipeline along the toe of the road slope to avoid established trees and standing water in the forested area beyond the road culverts, rather than removing trees and brush in that location. These responses indicate the government's flexibility on construction methodology while maintaining environmental protections through wildlife review processes for any tree removal activities.

RFI (MOF Lake Sherwood Dump Station Upgrades)
1. The area from the existing lift station to the road is forested and will present issues with roots from sizable trees in excavating the trench for the new line. Will there be an issue possibly damaging established trees during excavation? Should this become an issue we can remove trees as long as we’re given enough time for our wildlife scientists to come out and give us approval.
2. Will the topsoil that is removed from the excavation be acceptable to replace that during backfill? Stockpile and reuse of topsoil is an approved method.
3. Inasmuch as there is no grass in this area, being forested, will this area require seeding? If there is no grass in the area leave area cleaned up as possible without seeding.
4. The new line shown to run alongside the road to the point of intersection with the existing line, "must go around the end of the road culvert". The area beyond the culverts, there are two, is forested, and currently has standing water. What are the requirements for removing trees and brush to go around the culverts. And will it be acceptable to run the remainder of the line in the toe of the slope of the road to avoid the established trees and standing water? We will approve this method.
