About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for facility painting projects at the Bitterroot National Forest, issued by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The project involves repainting exterior surfaces of several buildings located in Montana, including facilities at Stevensville Ranger District, Darby Ranger Station, and West Fork Ranger Station. Specific requirements include mechanical paint/caulk removal, pressure washing, priming exposed bare wood, caulking, and applying two coats of exterior latex paint, with special considerations for historic buildings and lead-based paint removal.
The project has unique technical specifications for different building types, including rock board-sided buildings, tile-sided residences, and wood-sided structures. The Darby Barn requires lead-based paint renovators' certification for proper paint removal, and historic buildings like the Darby Visitor Center and Barn must be painted by hand with visible brush strokes. The entire painting project is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2026, under solicitation number 1240LU25Q0070, and is being executed through the Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

Project BRF Facility Painting Projects
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
This project will repaint the exterior of several buildings on the Bitterroot National Forest. The work will include mechanical removal of loose and failing paint/caulk, pressure washing, priming where bare wood is exposed, caulking, and applying two coats of exterior latex paint.
2.0 Background
This project will repaint the exterior of several buildings on the Bitterroot National Forest. Buildings are located at the Stevensville Ranger District (88 Main Street, Stevensville, MT 59870), Darby Ranger Station (712 North Main Street, Darby, MT 59829), and the West Fork Ranger Station (6735 West Fork Road, Darby, MT 59829). Most of these buildings are sided with rock boards and were last painted around 2010. The West Fork Residence #3 is sided with tiles. The Darby Barn is sided with shiplap wood and currently has lead-based paint. The Darby Barn will require lead-based paint renovators’ certification to ensure the existing paint system is appropriately removed, prior to priming and painting. The Darby Visitor Center and Barn are both historic buildings, and painting shall be completed by hand and so that brush strokes remain.
