Q:

A:

Will the boulders be placed before or after the gravel is hauled and placed?

The boulders aquired from site during construction may be placed in an agreed upon location for future installation.

The water is for dust control on the access road as needed as well as for compacitng placed materials.

Where and how do we need to provide traffic control?

Contractor is required to submit a traffic control plan that meets MUTCD standards for our review. Advance warning signs for construction activities and trauck hauling, appropriate signs for road closure (Type III barricades) and trail closures must be placed. We need to send out public notices at least 2 weeks in advance of the dates/times of closure. Road will be closed from the Junction of FS road 409 and FS road 457.

Midland Trailhead Pre-bid Meeting 6/7/2024

Who Places the gravel once it is hauled?

The contractor is responsible for hauling and placing the gravel.

How far does the dust control need to be along the road?

Will the access road to the site be graded before gravel is hauled in?

Not unless there is an opportunity to smoothblade the road.

If the optional bid item is awarded, will the government grade that section of road before the gravel is hauled and placed there?

The contractor would be responsible for smoothblading, incidental to the installation of gravel. (Not a separate bid item). No testing will be required on the existing material.

For the compaction, do we provide testing and results?

The contractor will need testing to deterimine the required compaction effort for each material (i.e. 4 roller passes for base, 6 for surface aggregate, etc) Establish Roller pattern with testing on day 1. Random verification testing once material is placed for acceptance.

Can the water for dust control be taken from the site or does that need to be hauled in?

The water for dust control could be permitted, but the contractor would be responsibe for obtaining any required permits through the governing agency for the water source.
