About this file

This document is Amendment #2 for the Guinavah-Malibu Campground Reconstruction Solicitation (# 1240LS25R0002). The amendment addresses three specific technical clarification questions from a potential bidder regarding project details. The questions cover: (1) roof replacement specifications for existing comfort stations being converted to storage sheds, confirming 100% replacement of shingles, sheathing, ice and water shield, and sheet metal flashing; (2) material selection for stone veneer, questioning the use of manufactured stone versus natural stone given potential durability concerns in severe weather conditions; and (3) construction methodology for dumpster enclosure walls, proposing alternative construction techniques using concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls instead of cast-in-place concrete and seeking clarification on stone veneer requirements. The amendment instructs bidders to continue bidding according to the current Schedule of Items.

Guinavah-Malibu Campground Reconstruction Solicitation # 1240LS25R0002 Amendment #2

1. Can you confirm the extent of the roof repairs / replacement to be performed on the existing comfort stations / restrooms being converted into storage sheds?

100% shingle replacement? 100% of sheeting replacement or repair as necessary?

It’s our understanding that the ice & water shield and sheet metal trim will be 100% new.

The roof is scheduled to be a full replacement with LINE OF ROOF ABOVE. NEW SHEATHING, ICE AND WATER SHIELD, CEDAR BREATHER, CEDAR SHINGLE ROOF AND SHEET METAL

FLASHING. As stated on page A9 of the drawings

2. The plans and specs call for a cultured / manufactured stone, in lieu of a natural stone to be used. Wanting to confirm this is desired, considering the severe weather conditions the area receives and long-term effects that severe weather can severely hamper manufactured stone. Durability and adhesion can be affected quickly; in comparison to natural stone which was used on the existing amphitheater that has withstood the elements for many years. A natural stone is highly recommended but does add slightly to an overall cost; so I’m just wanting to confirm the desire for a manufactured stone and if a natural stone would be considered?

Please bid according to the current Schedule of Items

3. Dumpster enclosures: The dumpster enclosures show cast in place concrete wall construction, with veneer on both the inside and outside of the walls. Concrete walls require the mason to perform additional prep-work to the wall to ensure adhesion of the veneer to the “slick” surface. Can these 10” thick concrete walls be changed to 8inch core filled CMU with concrete / grout and using vertical rebar in the cells and horizontal wire reinforcing? The stone mason has less pre work for the veneer and would install ties while building the CMU walls.

Can you confirm the desire to have stone veneer on the inside of the dumpster enclosure walls? A significant cost savings could occur by using grout filled CMU walls in lieu of concrete walls AND eliminating veneer on the inside of the walls that would be hidden by the dumpsters. Stone could wrap the front face at the right and left ends of the wall / enclosure opening.
