About this file

This is a Report of Well Driller filed with the State of Idaho Department of Reclamation dated January 15, 1967. The well was drilled for the U.S. Experiment Station located in Dubois, Idaho under Owner's Permit No. 28. The drilled hole measures 12 inches in diameter with a total depth of 856 feet and standing water level of 71 feet below ground. The well was constructed using rotary drilling method with a threaded casing and concrete steel material measuring 250 wall thickness. Test delivery was conducted at an unspecified gpm rate, and the well was classified as a replacement well for range water use.

The well drilling operation was conducted by H. P. Cope Well Drilling of Poulsen, Idaho Falls, Idaho, commencing June 25, 1966 and completed October 7, 1966. Geological strata encountered during drilling included broken lava, solid red lava, red clay, hard grey lava, and black lava with cinders. The first water was encountered at 774 feet depth in softer red lava material. An 8-inch casing was installed between 774 and 780 feet with sand material present between those depths. Water testing was conducted by bailing for 5 hours at approximately 15 gallons per minute, during which no noticeable amount of water could be lowered, indicating limited water availability at this location.
