About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file related to equipment replacement, specifically addressing forklift usage and old unit disposal for a compressor installation. Two key questions are addressed: (1) forklift availability and site constraints, and (2) disposal requirements for the existing unit. The answers indicate that a forklift and operator are available upon request, but the deck grating cannot support the forklift's weight, necessitating a 10' deck plate to be provided by the prime contractor. Alternatively, the contractor can disassemble and manually remove the unit. Regarding disposal, the prime contractor is responsible for removing the old unit, with the government planning to retain the motor and some controllers. The old unit can optionally be placed in the site's scrap metal dumpster after oil removal.

Q&As

Question 1: “Is there a forklift available to remove old unit and place new unit in place?”

Answer 1: Yes, a forklift and operator are available upon advanced request. However, the deck grating in front of the compressor is not rated for the forklift weight. A 10’ deck plate would have to be placed over the deck grating and possibly reinforced from underneath. A deck plate is not available at the site; therefore, it will be the responsibility of the prime contractor to provide. An alternative option is to disassemble and remove (see attached photos).

Question 2: “Does the Govt want the old unit or are we to dispose of it?”

Answer 2: The prime contractor is to dispose of the old unit. The Government plans to remove and keep the motor and some controllers prior to the old unit disposal. As an option, the old unit can be placed at the sites scrap metal dumpster if the oil is removed.
