About this file

This supporting documentation file is a technical assessment prepared by Jacobs for the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) Wastewater Reclamation and Recycling Facility (WRRF), detailing water uses and piping systems across multiple buildings and complexes. The document provides a comprehensive inventory of secondary water demands throughout the facility, organized by building location with average daily demand measurements in gallons per minute (gpm). The assessment identifies specific water uses including pump seal water, motor cooling, flushing water, mist elimination systems, and various specialized applications across 20 primary locations plus additional unnumbered uses. Piping materials documented include ductile iron (DI), galvanized steel (Galv), copper, and stainless steel (SS), with associated components such as wye strainers, pressure reducing valves, and solenoid valves. The document was prepared under the Rehabilitation of SFE Pump Station project and specifically identifies heat exchangers and water heaters that were not known during the original design phase.

The document emphasizes critical operational considerations for secondary water systems, including water quality requirements and treatment needs for sensitive equipment such as cooling condenser units and bearing systems. Demands range from zero gpm at decommissioned facilities to 282 gpm at Influent Pump Station No. 1. The assessment notes that certain systems, including the existing SFE Pump Station, will be taken out of service following new facility implementation, while other systems such as dry polymer and raw liquid polymer systems are currently inactive. The document references source information from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), site visits, email correspondence, and engineering drawings, providing a detailed baseline for the Third-Party Design Review of the Screened Final Effluent Project.
