About this file

This document is a technical specification section for hollow metal doors and frames for the Orange County Public Works Administration Building project in Florida. The specification, dated 2025.04.21, details requirements for standard steel doors and frames, including material specifications, performance standards, fabrication guidelines, and installation procedures. The doors are to be impact-resistant and designed to meet Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) requirements, with specific standards for air infiltration, structural strength, and forced entry resistance. Manufacturers must comply with various ASTM, ANSI, and SDI standards, with SteelCraft (Basis of Design) listed as a preferred manufacturer.

The specification covers both exterior and interior doors, specifying different performance levels for each. Exterior doors are to be 1-3/4" thick with Level 4 and Physical Performance Level A (Maximum Duty), while interior doors have options for Level 3 and Level 4 performance levels. The doors will be fabricated from metallic-coated steel sheets, with core options including polystyrene, polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, mineral-board, or vertical steel-stiffener cores. Thermal-rated (insulated) doors are specified for exterior locations, restrooms, technology rooms, and mechanical spaces. The document provides comprehensive instructions for material selection, fabrication tolerances, installation procedures, and post-installation adjustments and cleaning.
