This program is funded through the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2004 (MIOTCRA) (Public Law 108-414), which was reauthorized in 2008 (Public Law 110-416). BJA is seeking a training and technical assistance (TTA) provider to deliver TTA to grantees to assist with their efforts to plan, implement, or expand adult or juvenile justice and mental health collaboration programs.

BJA FY24 Invited to Apply-Administrative Funding Adjustments to BJA Previously Funded Awards 2
The Bureau of Justice Assistance is inviting previously awarded applicants to continue their work on specific prior grants through this funding opportunity. Eligible applicants are those who received direct correspondence requesting application to this solicitation to further the original scope, purpose, and performance period substantially the same as the past award. Evaluation will focus on upholding the rule of law and improving public safety responses for individuals with mental health disorders. Applicants must apply by January 29, 2024 to be considered for funding assigned under the Criminal and Juvenile Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program. This program furthers the Department of Justice's mission and is funded through the CFDA 16.745 program. Applicable awards will match past amounts and performance periods to continue work already initiated on cross-system mental health collaborations between justice and health agencies to enhance community safety and outcomes. Places of performance will likely remain consistent with original awarded projects.

BJA FY 20 Collaborative Mental Health and Anti-Recidivism Initiative
Prison populations across the country have been severely impacted by the increased incarceration of individuals with mental illness. Individuals with mental illness are often associated with higher recidivism rates due to their limited access to mental health and other support services upon release. In many states, a shortage of mental health resources directly correlates to the overcrowding of prison systems. Under this initiative, BJA will select one application to establish a statewide pilot program that partners with the appropriate agencies within the state, such as the Department of Mental Health/Behavioral Health and Department of Corrections, to establish a collaborative prison anti-recidivism effort to provide comprehensive care before, during, and after incarceration for persons with serious mental illness, with a goal of reducing recidivism.

BJA FY 20 The Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program
The JMHS is authorized by the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2004 (MIOTCRA) (Pub. L. 108-414) and the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Reauthorization and Improvement Act of 2008 (Pub. L. 110-416). Additionally, the 21st Century CURES Act (2016) served to reauthorize MIOTCRA programs. Justice and Mental Health Solutions supports cross-system collaboration to improve responses and outcomes for individuals with mental illnesses (MI) or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse (CMISA) who come into contact with the justice system. This program supports officer and public safety and violence reduction through social service and other partnerships that will enhance and increase law enforcement responses to people with MI and CMISA.
