About this opportunity

The BJA FY24 Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program seeks applicants to improve responses to and outcomes for individuals with mental health disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Eligible applicants include tribal governments, higher education institutions, county/city/township governments, and state/special district governments. Applicants must prepare, create, or expand comprehensive plans and then implement collaborative projects between law enforcement and behavioral health systems. Applications will be evaluated based on project design, potential impact, and organizational capabilities. Applications are due May 1, 2024.

Award values and places of performance will vary based on the proposed projects and locations served, but funding is provided through the Department of Justice's Criminal and Juvenile Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (CFDA 16.745). Successful applicants are expected to use funding to support cross-system collaboration and projects in their local communities to improve responses and outcomes for individuals with mental health needs.

Synopsis

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is seeking applications for funding. OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety, protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community.
