About this opportunity
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is seeking applications for the FY25 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program. This grant funding opportunity aims to support collaborations that improve public safety responses and outcomes for people with mental health disorders (MHDs) or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (MHSUDs) who come into contact with the criminal justice system. Eligible applicants include county, special district, state, and city/township governments. The goal is to enhance crisis intervention, diversion, treatment, and reentry services through cross-system coordination between criminal justice, behavioral health, and social service agencies. Applications will be evaluated on factors such as program design, partnership engagement, and sustainability planning.
The typical award range for this program is $300,000 to $550,000 for 3-year project periods. Funded activities may include implementing co-responder teams, expanding mental health courts, providing crisis intervention training, and improving data sharing between criminal justice and behavioral health providers. Projects can take place in both urban and rural jurisdictions across the United States.
