About this opportunity
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from construction management at-risk firms for a renovation project at the University of Georgia's Cedar Street Building B. The project involves renovating approximately 7,900 square feet on the South Wing 2nd Floor of Building #1000, with a focus on creating advanced research spaces for synthetic biology and crop design within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The renovation aims to support strategic objectives including elevating national rankings, recruiting eminent scholars, and developing student training programs in agricultural genomics. Specific project goals include establishing a center of excellence for genomic crop improvement and supporting research that integrates synthetic biology, artificial intelligence, and plant breeding. The procurement is seeking firms with demonstrated expertise in laboratory renovation and research facility construction, with qualifications to be evaluated based on technical approach, team experience, and proposed methodology. The Request for Qualifications was posted on December 3, 2025, with responses due by January 7, 2026, located in Clarke County, Georgia.
While no specific set-aside designations or enterprise restrictions were explicitly mentioned in the provided documentation, the project appears designed to support broader academic research infrastructure development. The renovation will modernize research spaces that have remained largely unchanged since the building's construction in the 1970s, targeting significant upgrades to support contemporary research requirements. The project is anticipated to enhance UGA's research capabilities, particularly in agricultural sciences, and potentially attract new faculty and students to the program. Although specific budget ranges were not disclosed, the comprehensive scope of the renovation and the strategic importance to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences suggest a substantial investment. The project represents a critical component of UGA's strategy to advance its research enterprise and maintain competitive positioning in agricultural and environmental science research.

Project Background: The University of Georgia (UGA), College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), has requested renovations of approximately 7,900 sf within the South Wing 2nd Floor of Building #1000, Cedar Street Building B (CSBB). This addition was constructed during the 1970s and no major renovations have occurred within the existing research spaces on this floor since its initial construction and significant renovation will be required to support modern research lab requirements. Specific to Synthetic Biology and Crop Design, CAES envisions this renovation to support ¿advanced modeling to explore the role of multiple, interacting genes in agricultural systems, working from DNA to molecules to entire productions systems. CAES supports the recent recruitment of eminent scholar along with continuing cohort recruitment of additional faculty members to establish a center of excellence in the application of genomic tools for crop improvement." This renovation shall support the strategic plan of elevating CAES in national rankings by integrating synthetic biology with crop development, recruiting new faculty into this area and developing student training programs. The crop design program is expected to increase CAES enrollment by attracting new undergraduate and graduate students into agriculture¿s remarkable intersection of synthetic biology, artificial intelligence and plant breeding. This project also assists in additional advancements in UGA¿s growing research enterprise. Project Description The project will renovate approximately 7,900 sf and will maintain the existing corridors, and the space program for the project is anticipated to include: · An approximate 1,100 sf biology research lab with an asso
