About this opportunity

The City of Wichita is requesting bids for trash and recycling container supply and collection services across the Wichita Transportation, Wichita Police Department, and Wichita Public Library, with bids due October 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Central Time under RFB #260146. A local-vendor preference applies, given the requirement to respond to same-day service requests for submissions before 10:00 a.m. or next-day response for submissions after that time.

The scope encompasses trash hauling from 90–95 gallon carts to 8 cubic yard metal dumpsters at multiple facility locations with pickup frequencies of once weekly, twice weekly, or three times weekly, along with recycling services using similar container specifications and mostly as-needed or weekly pickup schedules. Bidders must quote pricing for all specified items across three groups using the City's Bid Table. All service changes, including missed pickups (within 24 hours), damaged or vandalized container replacements, and route day changes, are at no additional cost to the City. Prices must be delivered F.O.B. Wichita, Kansas and exclude all duties and taxes unless imposed by a governmental body.

The contract term is one year with four one-year renewal options available by mutual agreement. Either party may terminate with 30 days' prior written notice. Evaluation is based on lowest and best total net bid from a responsive and responsible vendor. Contractors must be licensed by the City of Wichita, obtain necessary permits for transfer station or landfill disposal, and maintain Commercial General Liability insurance with minimum $1 million per occurrence and $2 million annual aggregate, Comprehensive Automobile Liability, Workers' Compensation, and Employers Liability coverage. The contract incorporates Federal Transit Administration clauses applicable to services provided to Wichita Transit Authority, including debarment verification, civil rights compliance, and Clean Air Act and Federal Water Pollution Control Act compliance. Written questions are due October 15, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Central Time. Tentative City Council approval is scheduled for November 3, 2026.
