About this opportunity
Salt Lake County's Division of Contracts and Procurement issued a Request for Information (RFI) on March 24, 2026, for stage flooring materials to be installed at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center. The procurement seeks StageLam Flooring, a proprietary composite material that provides superior durability and longevity compared to traditional pressboard layering, which is the current industry standard but lacks the required performance specifications for this application. Salt Lake County explicitly states it is not accepting information regarding pressboard-based products and is seeking information solely about other companies capable of providing materials comparable to StageLam's proprietary flooring composition. The key objective is to identify alternative vendors or materials that meet the same performance standards and durability requirements as StageLam, including the ability to withstand heavy rolling loads and reduce maintenance burden while extending replacement intervals. All comments and inquiries must be submitted directly to Bibi Whitehead at bwhitehead@saltlakecounty.gov by March 31, 2026, before 1:00 PM Mountain Time, and interested parties should note that submissions will be treated as protected records under Utah GRAMA provisions until contract execution or two years from the RFI date.
This procurement is designated as a sole source purchase, meaning it is restricted to GRT Genesis, Inc., the exclusive manufacturer and authorized vendor of StageLam Flooring, which holds exclusive intellectual property and manufacturing rights for this proprietary composite material. Salt Lake County justifies the sole source designation based on StageLam's unique proprietary composite engineering and performance characteristics that alternative surfacing materials cannot match, as other evaluated options lack the required proprietary composite density specifications. The RFI process allows Salt Lake County to explore whether any other vendors exist who could provide comparable alternatives before proceeding with the sole source award. The estimated procurement value is $40,000, and the flooring will be integrated with the existing infrastructure at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center, with the same specifications currently installed at the Eccles Theater, indicating established compatibility and performance standards within Salt Lake County's facilities.
Opportunity text
The Division of Contracts and Procurement has received a request to purchase from a "sole source" vendor. If, for any reason, any party does not agree that this sole source purchase is applicable, please email the contact person for Salt Lake County Contracts and Procurement Division prior to March 31st, 2026. Salt Lake County seeks to: Work with GRT Genesis, Inc. to provide StageLam Flooring for the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center. While traditional pressboard layering remains the baseline and industry standard, the product lacks the longevity required for the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center. As such, the agency is not looking for information regarding products that consist of pressboard layering, but is seeking any information as to any other company that can provide materials comparable to the StageLam proprietary flooring.
