About this opportunity

Salt Lake City is issuing Request for Information SLCI27037 seeking information from vendors, suppliers, agencies, and nonprofit organizations that provide food waste recycling and food recovery services, with responses due October 16, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. This is an information-gathering exercise, not a procurement process, and will not result in binding contracts or purchases.

Salt Lake City is working toward a zero-waste goal by 2040 and aims to expand food waste recycling and recovery options for residents and businesses within city boundaries. The city currently provides limited food waste recycling through its Department of Sustainability, Waste and Recycling Division, accepting organics such as fruits, vegetables, eggshells, and coffee grounds. The RFI seeks to surface available vendors and resources, potentially feature vendors as resources on the city's website and social media, facilitate appropriate collaborations, and inform future planning.

Respondents must submit comprehensive business information electronically through the Utah Public Procurement Place (U3P) website, including company name, address, primary contact, email, and Utah business license number. The submission must include detailed descriptions of food waste recycling and food recovery processes, business offerings, customer education materials, and approaches to addressing environmental impacts from transportation and energy use.

Information submitted in response is protected under Utah Code Section 63G-2-305, and vendors do not need to submit a separate Claim of Confidentiality form, though one is available for vendors wishing to formally document confidentiality claims for sensitive information. A confidentiality claim does not guarantee protected classification if the government receives subsequent records requests under the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA).

Opportunity text

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to obtain information from vendors, suppliers, agencies and non-profit organizations that provide food waste recycling and/or food recovery services. The intent of this RFI is to provide a publicly posted opportunity for all service providers to present themselves to City and to respond to this request. This RFI is not a procurement process and may not be used to make a purchase or enter into a contract. A response to a request for information is not an offer and may not be accepted to form a binding contract. Information submitted to or by a governmental entity in response to a request for information is protected under Section 63G-2-305. As such, vendors do not need to submit a Claim of Confidentiality.
