Summary
This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by Salt Lake City Corporation seeking information from vendors, suppliers, agencies, and non-profit organizations that provide food waste recycling and/or food recovery services. The RFI is not a procurement process and will not result in contracts. Salt Lake City is working toward a zero-waste goal by 2040 and aims to expand food waste recycling and recovery options for residents and business owners within city boundaries. The city currently provides limited food waste recycling through its Department of Sustainability, Waste and Recycling Division, accepting organics such as fruits, vegetables, eggshells, and coffee grounds. Respondents must submit their information electronically through the Utah Public Procurement Place (U3P) website by 12:00 p.m. on October 16, 2026. No site visits or bidder conferences are mentioned in the RFI.
Respondents must provide comprehensive business information including name, address, primary contact, email, and Utah business license number, along with detailed descriptions of their food waste recycling and/or food recovery processes, business offerings, customer education materials, and approaches to addressing environmental impacts from transportation and energy use. This RFI is designed to surface available vendors and resources, potentially include vendors as resources on the city's website and social media, facilitate appropriate collaborations, and inform future planning. Information gathered will be publicly posted, and vendors do not need to submit claims of confidentiality as responses are protected under Utah Code Section 63G-2-305. The file includes a map depicting Salt Lake City boundaries as the service area.

The City’s Department of Sustainability, Waste and Recycling Division currently provides limited food waste recycling which includes some organics namely fruits, vegetables, eggshells, and coffee grounds.
1. The purpose of this RFI is to assist City in determining what resources are available for expanding food waste recycling and food recovery services.
2. The RFI will provide City with a realistic picture of how vendors would help residents and business owners to meet current City goals as stated above.
3. The RFI will provide City with information about available resources for potentially developing an expanded food waste recycling and food recovery plan.
4. The RFI will help City understand industry best practices and innovative approaches.
