About this opportunity

The Kansas Department of Transportation is requesting electronic bids for an electric lighting system installation at the I-70/K-177 junction in Geary County, with bids due June 17, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. via Bid Express. Contractors must be prequalified and identified as bid holders no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Monday preceding the letting date.

The scope encompasses furnishing and installing a complete electric lighting system including five high mast light towers (100, 110, and 120 feet tall with 48-inch concrete bases), light poles (40 and 55 feet mounting heights with LED luminaires), concrete bases, conduit systems in various sizes and schedules, cable, ground rods, transformers, and associated hardware. The project requires 470 linear feet of boring and includes 88 expansion joints and numerous electrical components detailed in the Summary of Electric Lighting System Quantities. All furnished items must comply with either KDOT's List of Prequalified Roadway Lighting Systems and Equipment or contract specifications as approved by the engineer.

The project is funded entirely by state funds. Work must open the project to unrestricted traffic within 35 restricted working days and be completed entirely within 45 total contract working days. The earliest start date is May 3, 2027, with a latest start date of May 18, 2026. Successful contractors must execute the contract within ten business days after award notification.

Bids are structured as a lump sum price, but contractors must provide unit costs for each individual electric lighting item; the sum of unit costs multiplied by quantities cannot exceed the lump sum bid. The unit cost spreadsheet must be submitted to the Letting Engineer no later than noon on Friday following the letting day. Contractors must hold a current Tax Clearance Certificate from the Kansas Department of Revenue at award and comply with KDOT Standard Specifications for State Road and Bridge Construction (2015 Edition), EEO requirements, noncollusion certifications, and prohibitions on foreign unmanned aerial systems. A bid bond is required. Addendum 1 was posted May 29, 2026.
