About this opportunity
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority is modernizing twenty escalators across the B Wing (units #5–24) under RFP081123EC, with quotations due September 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., though a strict communication blackout prohibits firms from contacting Authority staff or GWCC officials except through formal question submission until final award.
The scope covers two 48-inch-wide escalators with 40-inch steps and a 13-foot rise, and eighteen 32-inch-wide escalators with 24-inch steps and a 20-foot rise—all operating at 100 feet per minute in reversible, 30-degree-angle service. Work includes engineering, labor, materials, transportation, equipment, and 12 months of warranty preventive maintenance with 24-hour emergency callback service beginning at the second unit's completion. All work must comply with ASME A17.1 and A17.2, the National Electrical Code, ADA accessibility standards, and local building codes. Contractor must obtain permits, schedule inspections, and deliver three sets of project manuals, complete as-built wiring diagrams, maintenance control programs, diagnostic equipment with access codes, parts catalogs, and four sets of tagged keys prior to final payment.
Work must coordinate with an active event calendar spanning 2024–2026 (events ranging from 1,500 to 70,000 attendees); working hours will be negotiated with the selected vendor, typically 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with night work and loud work on non-event days when possible. Barricading is limited to carpeted areas using minimum 4-foot by 8-foot Masonite board.
Evaluation criteria include cost of required work, interim maintenance, warranty maintenance, completion schedule, successful completion of similar projects, and maintenance capability. A mandatory proposal conference and site visit is scheduled for August 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Building B. Written questions are due August 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Quotations remain open for 180 days; pricing with no escalation applies if awarded within that period. Payment is structured as 25 percent downpayment, 35 percent on material delivery, 30 percent progress, and 10 percent retention upon completion. Kone has been selected as the Apparent Awardee.
