About this opportunity
Walworth County Department of Public Works is requesting sealed bids for the demolition and replacement of an oversized salt dome garage door system, with bids due June 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. through the Walworth County Bonfire Portal and a virtual public bid opening via Microsoft Teams at 10:15 a.m. the same day.
The scope covers removal of the existing rolling door (approximately 20 feet by 30 feet), operator, track, and associated components at W4097 County Road NN, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, followed by furnish and installation of a replacement rolling door system with new operator, track, and related components. The specified rolling door product is a Cornell ESD10 model with galvanized steel slats, hot-dip galvanized guides and hardware, and a torsion spring counterbalance system. Bidders may request substitutions via a formal substitution request form directed to Carolyn Holt, Senior Buyer, subject to architect review. A one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship is required for all materials, labor, equipment, and services.
Bidders must demonstrate a minimum of seven years of technical experience, maintain a permanent place of business, and provide evidence of successful on-time and on-budget project completion. A performance bond equal to 100 percent of the contract price is required within three days of execution. Commercial General Liability insurance with minimum limits of $5 million per occurrence and $10 million aggregate is mandatory, along with Workers' Compensation, Employers' Liability, and Automobile Liability coverage.
Work hours are restricted to 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays unless otherwise authorized in writing. The contractor must obtain all necessary permits and licenses and ensure utilities are disconnected prior to demolition while maintaining access to the neighboring salt dome and traffic ways.
Contract award is anticipated by July 20, 2026, with project completion required by November 30, 2026. An optional pre-bid meeting is scheduled for June 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Walworth County Public Works Building. Final questions are due June 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., with a final addendum issued by June 22, 2026. Bids remain valid for 60 days from opening. Award is contingent upon availability of funds and goes to the lowest responsive, qualified bidder. Walworth County requires submission of a list of proposed subcontractors and their respective classes of work; each subcontractor must submit written bids to the general contractor at least 48 hours prior to bid closing under Wisconsin Statute Section 66.0901(7).
