About this opportunity
Mt. San Antonio College is soliciting bids for custom furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) for the new Technology & Health Building, a 273,000-square-foot four-story facility consolidating 10 departments and 26 academic programs, with proposals due September 15, 2026.
The scope encompasses design and fabrication of diverse furniture across all four floors: work tables in multiple dimensions and configurations (including ADA-compliant variants) with specified materials and power/wire management integration; custom reception counters with acrylic panels, plastic laminates, and solid surface finishes; specialty items including metal sheet racks, residential simulation lab beds, and custom wood tables with phenolic resin or maple surfaces; signage; and architectural woodwork. Specifications require detailed material composition (3Form Varia Ecoresin with minimum 40% pre-consumer recycled content and Greenguard certification; Wilsonart plastic laminates and solid surface countertops; high-pressure laminates on hardwood plywood cores), dimensional accuracy, ADA compliance where applicable, and compliance with fire safety standards (ASTM E 84 minimum Class B). Select items designate specific manufacturers as the basis of design — Formaspace Basix workbenches for WT2 tables, Bold + Furniture for WT4A/WT4B tables sourced through Edgewater Contract, and Cairns or equivalents for other specified pieces. Manufacturers must demonstrate two to five years of continuous experience and successful delivery on three to six comparable projects. Preinstallation conferences and site visits are required prior to bid submission; post-award mockups and shop-drawing approvals are mandatory. The design philosophy emphasizes flexibility, durability, ease of maintenance, and alignment with professional industry standards suitable for multicultural educational environments.
All contracts exceeding $25,000 require performance and payment bonds equal to 100 percent of contract value. Contractors must maintain workers' compensation insurance at statutory limits and commercial general liability and automobile liability insurance with limits of not less than one million dollars per occurrence, listing Mt. San Antonio College as additional insured. Compliance with California Labor Code prevailing wage requirements, DIR registration, and AHERA regulations is mandatory. A one-year warranty on workmanship and materials from completion applies; Formaspace-supplied items carry a 12-year manufacturer warranty covering fabricated components with one-year coverage for accessories. Mt. San Antonio College reserves the right to terminate without cause upon ten days' notice and may assess liquidated damages for missed completion dates.
Opportunity text
The new four-story Technology and Health Building at Mt. San Antonio College will bring together programs currently spread across six separate locations, including modular buildings, the Health Careers facility, and the existing Technology buildings. This transformative 273,000-square-foot facility will support 10 departments and 26 academic programs, consolidating them into a single, innovative learning environment. Not only will this be the largest building on Mt. SAC's campus, but it will also be the largest instructional facility of any community college in California. Furniture Design Philosophy: The furniture design philosophy for the Technology and Health Building is rooted in supporting a dynamic, forward-thinking educational environment. Furniture is thoughtfully selected and strategically placed to showcase the identity of each program, creating visually distinct, branded spaces that reflect the character and purpose of the disciplines they serve. To promote student engagement, the design emphasizes flexibility-offering a variety of seating styles, collaborative workstations, and inviting social zones that encourage interaction, collaboration, and informal learning. Inspired by professional and industry environments, the furnishings convey a modern, innovative aesthetic that prepares students for the expectations of their future careers. At the same time, every piece is chosen with durability, ease of maintenance, and user comfort in mind-ensuring a long-lasting, adaptable, and accessible experience for both students and faculty. This thoughtful integration of function, form, and flexibility fosters innovation, supports diverse learning styles, and strengthens the connection between education and real-world application. It is the goal that furniture for this project must align with the standards of a leading global company that operates within a multi-cultural and diverse environment. Solutions must be value-driven and performance-oriented, with an emphasis on a design-forward approach that reflects innovation, functionality, and aesthetic excellence. Furniture selections should support a dynamic, high-performance workplace while embodying the brand's commitment to thoughtful design and cultural inclusivity. Products must be backed by rigorous research and problem-solving methodologies, ensuring adaptability and long-term usability. Furthermore, majority of the furniture must be sourced from domestic manufacturing facilities to support local economies, ensure quality control, and promote sustainable, efficient production practices.
