About this opportunity

The City of Long Beach Public Utilities Department is requesting bids on the Cherry Avenue Sewer Improvement Project (SC-0512), with bids due October 14, 2026. The work consists of installing approximately 3,100 linear feet of vitrified clay pipe (VCP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sewer line, constructing 12 new 48-inch sewer maintenance holes and one new 60-inch drop sewer maintenance hole, and removing or abandoning existing sewer infrastructure. The scope also includes dewatering, sewer flow bypassing, post-construction video inspection, pavement removal and replacement, trenching, backfilling, and compacting.

Work is performed across multiple segments along Cherry Avenue, East Anaheim Street, and Gardenia Avenue in Long Beach, with sewer main diameters ranging from 8 to 18 inches. The project requires compliance with Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts standard specifications and amendments. Contractors must coordinate with multiple utility providers including Southern California Edison, Verizon, AT&T, MCI, and Spectrum; obtain permits from the City of Long Beach and Cal-OSHA; and complete mandatory pre-construction conferences. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, with a minimum one-lane operation requirement maintained during construction.

Traffic control is staged across 20 stages with construction scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., approximately eight hours per stage. Contractors must provide five working days' advance notice to city departments and install temporary "No Parking" signs 48–72 hours before work commencement. Speed limits are 30 MPH on Anaheim Street and 25 MPH on Cherry Avenue during construction. The plans were approved September 15, 2026, with engineering oversight provided by DRP Engineering, Inc. under Project Manager Saik-Choon Poh. All sewer lines are specified as extra-strength VCP unless otherwise noted, with flexible joints required within 18 inches of LACSD manhole connections.
