About this opportunity

Detroit Public Schools Community District is requesting proposals for turn-key demolition of four former school buildings with proposals due October 7, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., mandatory pre-bid conference on September 23, 2026, and mandatory site walkthroughs September 24–25, 2026. Work must be completed by June 30, 2027. Each school will be awarded separately to a single contractor, though a contractor may bid multiple schools.

The four demolition sites are Former Post Middle School (8200 Midland Street), Former Murphy Elementary-Middle School (23901 Fenkell Street), Former Stewart Performance Academy (13120 Wildemere Street), and Former Pulaski Elementary-Middle School (19725 Strasburg Street), all in Detroit, Michigan. The scope includes mobilization, hazardous materials abatement (asbestos, universal waste, regulated materials), utility disconnection, floodwater pumping, structure demolition, site restoration, and optional 24/7 on-site security during non-working hours at a daily rate multiplied by 144 estimated days. Underground storage tank assessment and removal allowances apply to Murphy ($40,000) and Pulaski ($70,000); tunnel termination allowance ($50,000) applies to Post only. Stewart has no UST or tunnel allowances.

Bidders must be licensed by the State of Michigan for asbestos abatement work. All pricing must be submitted as fixed-fee, lump-sum proposals inclusive of labor, materials, supplies, equipment, and incidental costs. Item 1 (mobilization, demobilization, permits, project administration) is capped at 15 percent of total contract amount. The contract is subject to Michigan prevailing wage requirements. All work must comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including EPA NESHAP and MIOSHA standards. Preliminary hazardous materials surveys are attached for each building; contractors must conduct independent site assessments as survey quantities are estimates only.

Written questions are due September 28, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
