About this opportunity
The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), seeks to fund community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. Eligible applicants are community-based coalitions that have previously received a DFC grant (Years 1-5) or experienced a funding lapse, with specific requirements including representing 12 required sectors, having a mission focused on youth substance use prevention, and addressing at least two substances. Applicants must demonstrate a comprehensive approach to reducing substance use risks and promoting protective factors within their communities. The evaluation criteria will assess the coalition's ability to establish collaborative efforts among community stakeholders, develop evidence-based prevention strategies, and meet statutory eligibility requirements. The application deadline is May 5, 2025, with an expected award date of August 29, 2025, and a project start date of September 30, 2025.
The grant opportunity offers up to $125,000 per budget period, with approximately 50 awards anticipated and a total expected program funding of $31,250,000 over a five-year performance period. Recipients must secure a 100% match from non-federal sources and are limited to a maximum of 10 years of total DFC funding. The program supports a 60-month project period divided into five 12-month budget periods, with coalitions required to participate in a national cross-site evaluation and provide annual performance and financial reports. These grants will support community-based efforts across various locations, targeting youth substance use prevention through collaborative, multi-sector approaches.
Synopsis
The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program was created by the Drug-Free Communities Act of 1997 (Public Law 105-20). The Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) are accepting applications for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program Grants. The purpose of the DFC Support Program is to establish and strengthen collaborations to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. By statute, the DFC Support Program has two goals: 1) Establish and strengthen the collaboration among communities, public and private non-profit agencies, as well as federal, state, local, and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth (individuals 18 years of age and younger). 2) Reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance use among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increases the risk of substance use and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance use. This funding opportunity will fund applicants who have concluded the first (Year 1 - 5) funding cycle or have experienced a lapse in funding.
