About this opportunity
The Department of the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC) has issued a Special Notice for a sole source order to Werfen, located in Bedford, Massachusetts, under GSA contract GS-07F-128DA. The notice concerns the procurement of specialized medical laboratory equipment and supplies for the Naval Medical Research Unit - Dayton (NAMRU-D). Specifically, the order includes various sample cartridges and components for a GEM4000 blood/gas analyzer, totaling 25 test packs and 16 separate analyzer components. While the notice is primarily a sole source notification, the government has indicated it will consider all responses from interested parties. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and will be processed as a firm fixed price contract.
Contractors interested in this opportunity must meet specific eligibility requirements, including mandatory registration in the Systems for Award Management (SAM) and possession of a Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI). The government will award the contract through FAR Part 12 Commercial Items guidelines, with a posted date of May 20, 2025, and a response deadline of June 3, 2025. Potential vendors can register for SAM free of charge through the official website (www.sam.gov) or by calling (866) 606-8220. The procurement is specifically for research purposes, supporting the Environmental Health Effects Laboratory's current animal research protocol involving silica nose-only exposures. The justification for the sole source approach stems from the proprietary nature of Werfen's specialized medical diagnostic equipment, which the NMRC has determined is essential for conducting their specific research requirements.
