About this opportunity
The U.S. Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground is soliciting proposals to develop Conformal Wearable Batteries to power soldier electronic devices including the Nett Warrior system, Integrated Visual Augmentation System, and Next Generation Squad Weapon. The solicitation requires the battery to be semi-flexible, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that can operate these devices for over 100 hours or recharge their internal batteries to increase mission time without resupply. Proposals are due by August 7, 2020 and will be evaluated based on technical approach, past performance, and price. Key deliverables and dates include 200 batteries for first article testing within nine months of award.
The solicitation does not specify any set-aside designations. The NAICS code is 334516 and PSC code is 6505. No potential incumbents or current contractors are identified. The place of performance will be at contractor and government facilities. Key numerical details include a requirement for 200 batteries for first article testing within nine months of award, with delivery of additional quantities over nine years under an IDIQ contract with fixed pricing structured in bands from $1 to $7 per unit based on annual order quantities from 200 to 90,000 units.

The Conformal Wearable Battery (CWB) is a centralized energy source that can power the Nett Warrior (NW) suite of electronic devices, the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS), and the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW), while also providing recharging capability to the batteries in these devices. The CWB has the ability to: (1) increase the mission time without having to stop for battery resupply; and (2) eliminate the need to swap out the batteries in each device. The “Conformal” in the title refers to the requirement for the battery to be semi-flexible in order to conform to body and soldier-worn equipment location constraints.
