About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seeks to procure maintenance, repair, and service support for a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) under solicitation number 75D301-26-Q-78781, designating this as a commercial item procurement under FAR Subpart 12.603. The CDC's Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) requires the contractor to provide unlimited labor, travel, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts coverage with a 48-hour response time, one scheduled preventive maintenance visit annually, software updates and fixes, telephone support within four hours during business hours, and quarterly status reports. The contractor must be authorized to service a Thermo Fisher Talos L120C transmission electron microscope and possess successful experience maintaining transmission electron microscopes with specialized TEM training. Evaluation of responses will consider the contractor's experience, qualifications, compliance with information security and privacy requirements, and ability to meet the specified service levels and response times. Questions regarding the solicitation are due by noon EST on February 9, 2026, with responses due by 3:30 PM EST on February 10, 2026, to be submitted to Alyssa Thomas at ah78@cdc.gov.

This procurement is designated as a sole-source acquisition with no set-aside requirements, with FEI Company identified as the intended recipient based on justification documents citing its status as the original equipment manufacturer. The estimated contract value is under $350,000, covering a one-year base period from February 2026 through February 2027 with four optional one-year renewal periods extending through February 2031. The equipment to be serviced is a Thermo Fisher Talos L120C transmission electron microscope (Serial Number 9960670) located at the CDC's Roybal Campus in Laboratory Building 18, Atlanta, Georgia. The NAICS code for this procurement is 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance), with a standard small business size threshold of $34 million in annual revenue. Prior market research, including a Request for Information notice posted November 24, 2025, yielded no alternative capable vendors, and the CDC confirmed that other institutions contract with FEI for the same equipment maintenance services.
