About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy's Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility has issued a Special Notice regarding their intent to award a sole-source contract for submarine chrome plating services. The notice involves the removal and replacement of chrome plating on a SUBSAFE/VEL hydraulic accumulator cylinder for a Seawolf class submarine. This is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside opportunity posted on September 4, 2025. The government intends to award the contract to Precision Equipment Inc., which they identify as the only known approved vendor capable of performing this specialized SUBSAFE equipment work. The notice emphasizes that this is not a request for competitive quotes but rather a notification of sole-source intent.
The primary purpose of this notice is to inform potential contractors of the government's intention to proceed with a sole-source award while providing an opportunity for other qualified parties to express interest and demonstrate their capabilities. Interested contractors must respond by September 10, 2025, at 12:00 PM PST, though the government retains sole discretion in determining whether to compete the procurement based on responses received. The work involves precise chrome plating to specific technical requirements, including thickness specifications between 0.0002" and 0.025" and strict diameter tolerances. Contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) to be eligible for award and must be approved to work on SUBSAFE equipment. The contract period is estimated from September to December 2025, and responses must be submitted in writing with costs incurred in responding being the contractor's responsibility.
