About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Strategic Acquisition Center has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to sole source firm fixed-price contracts to Carahsoft Technology Corp. and Abridge AI, Inc. These contracts stem from the "AI Tech Sprint for Documenting VA Clinical Encounters and Integrating Community Care Data" challenge, which was authorized under the America COMPETES Act and Executive Order 14110. The winners were selected through a rigorous and competitive evaluation process, with the intention of implementing pilot programs to test and evaluate innovative ambient scribe technologies in live VA environments. The procurement falls under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541715 and will focus on developing commercial, cloud-based AI tools for transcribing clinical encounters and generating electronic health record notes.

The primary objective of this Special Notice is to enable the VA to procure advanced AI-driven documentation tools that can streamline clinical encounter documentation processes without manual data entry. Contractors interested in being considered for the opportunity must submit detailed documentation demonstrating their qualifications to William.Milline@va.gov or Cristine.Carmody@va.gov no later than May 16, 2025. The VA will use the submitted information solely for market research purposes to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The proposed contracts will develop Software as a Service tools that can integrate with VA Electronic Health Record systems, allowing providers to initiate encounter recordings automatically and generate draft notes without manual copy-and-paste efforts. Importantly, this notice is not a Request for Proposals, and the government will not reimburse any costs associated with responding. The VA retains sole discretion in determining whether to compete the proposed requirement based on the responses received.
