About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force Global Strike Command, through the 5th Contracting Squadron at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, is seeking potential vendors to manufacture a high-fidelity, 1:8 scale static display model of a B-52H Stratofortress bomber for permanent outdoor installation. This Sources Sought notice and Request for Information (RFI) is issued for market research purposes to identify manufacturers capable of producing a heritage-quality exterior model without internal components or cockpit details. Key requirements include construction from durable materials such as fiberglass, a 24-foot wingspan, maximum weight of 400 pounds, accurate Air Force markings and paint schemes, and capability to withstand extreme North Dakota environmental conditions ranging from -40°F to +100°F with high wind loads, heavy snow and ice accumulation, and prolonged UV exposure. The government is actively soliciting industry feedback on the draft Statement of Work to improve requirements clarity, particularly regarding material recommendations, fabrication techniques, design standards, coatings, and engineering best practices for outdoor aerospace models. The submission deadline for industry comments and responses to this RFI is 4:00 p.m. on January 21, 2026, with final assembly and installation to be performed by government personnel.

This opportunity carries no set-aside designation and no incumbent contractor or award value information has been disclosed at this pre-solicitation phase. The specific organizational and unit markings required include 23rd Bomb Squadron insignia, 5th Bomb Wing insignia, nose numbers, command insignia, and distinctive unit markings, all to be rendered in traditional Air Force gray. Vendors must provide assembly instructions and be responsible for delivery of the completed model to Minot AFB, with mounting accomplished through a cylinder mechanism featuring 1-2 bolts for secure placement. While no formal proposal evaluation criteria have been detailed in this RFI stage, prospective bidders should anticipate that future solicitation criteria will likely prioritize materials expertise, fabrication capability for large-scale outdoor displays, experience with heritage aircraft models, and demonstrated ability to meet demanding environmental durability standards. The procurement is categorized under NAICS 339999 (All Other Miscellaneous Manufacturing) and PSC 6910 (Training Aids).
