About this opportunity
The Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a SNSPD Detector System Upgrade consisting of four superconducting nanowire single photon detectors with cryogenic amplifiers and readout electronics, plus one controllable solenoid vacuum valve with automation controls, with proposals due May 25, 2026 at 4:00 PM Central Time.
Place of performance is Batavia, Illinois. The detectors must meet specified performance thresholds including greater than 85% photon detection efficiency at 1550 nm, 25 ps timing jitter, 60 ns recovery time, dark counts of 100 counts per second, and photon number resolving capability for N=2 and N=3 photons. All line items must fit within the existing Quantum Opus One Cryostat enclosure of 3U rack size.
Award will be made on a Low Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) basis to the responsible supplier offering the lowest evaluated price. FFDG intends to award without discussions. The NAICS code is 334419, Other Electronic Component Manufacturing; PSC code is 6150, Miscellaneous Electric Power and Distribution Equipment.
Proposals must include completed RFP pages with pricing, a Subcontractor Annual Representations and Certifications form, and PUR-466 Proposal Certifications with tiered requirements based on contract value. The subcontract will incorporate FFDG General Terms and Conditions for Commercial Products and Commercial Services (08/2025), which flow down FAR and DEAR clauses in tiered thresholds ranging from $3,500 to $6,000,000, including site access restrictions prohibiting assignment of foreign nationals from state-sponsored terrorism countries without DOE Headquarters approval (180-day advance notice required). Small business subcontracting plans are required for subcontracts exceeding $750,000. Questions should be directed to Grace Gomez, Procurement Specialist II, at ggomez@fnal.gov or 630-840-2840.
